Melo gets a lot of heat around here but this year there seems to be a different attitude from him

I too am impressed. He is definitely showing signs of maturity and leadership. It will pay dividends if he keeps this up
Thank God Fisher is no longer our coach, now let's get Calderon out of here:)

Clyde Frazier on the telecast is spot on though. 60% FG+ in the pre-season from Melo so far is a tough bar to setup for the regular season.

I hope it continues and all, because he's not really doing any assisting or rebounding so far, but what happens when he's off? Does he continue to try to shoot himself out of his funk at the expense of his teammates, or does he do the other things like defend, rebound, and pass when your shot's not there?

By the way he has conducted himself thus far, I think Carmelo is finally in the place he must be to be viewed, as well as, garner the hardware that superstars have amassed. He wants to be accountable for his mistakes and serves as an example for the young guys to follow. I wish him nothing but success; and I thank Phil for helping Carmelo to recognize what it really takes to be a megastar like Jordan, Kobe, and Shaquille

has he impressed me that he is hitting his shot. What he has not shown me yet is what happens when his shot is off. Have we seen more teamwork, more defense, more passing, more assists? not at all.

So, until I see what happens when Melo's shot is off, he has not shown me anything other than him looking healthy.

so here is what phil is thinking ....

The article points out that he is asking the coaches to call him out in film sessions if he isn't playing the right way. He said it brings out the best in him and that Boeheim and Karl used to call him out in film sessions. Not really sure what you are looking for from him but I also don't know if you will see it if it is there.

Last game he fought over two screens which lead to 2 offensive fouls on top of that he had 3 steps and a blk. Now he wasn't perfect on D but doing the little things like fighting over screens is big.

I am open minded to Melo and have no problem changing my opinion of him but I will need to see it happen on the floor. Its nice that he played a bit harder on defense that game.

And, its hard for me to start judging since he hasnt missed that many shots so passing was certainly not gonna happen.

I'm with EinMan. I do believe Melo WANTS to win but he still has to prove he can adapt his game. Everybody looks good when they are red hot. When he is ice cold how will he respond? Will he try to attack the rim more to open up for others? Try to draw more fouls? Or will he play very passive and let others try to score? Will he continue to jack up shots? And will he try to get more points from triangle actions or just take the ball when he wants and try to ISO?

Getting to the line??? WTH>>>> he took more FT's then anyone on the knicks roster last season, and only played half the seaosn.

How many scorers you know that doesn't jack up a few ill advised shots, even MJ took a bunch of questionable shots in his career.

I think the guy has brought in, much more than the MDA ERA, or Woodson. You never going to get any 13 yr vet to completely transform his game. He's making a 124 million for playing the way he plays.

MJ also hit 50% of his shots for his entire career, eclipsing over 50% 6 times in his career. Melo never shot 50% or better in his 12 year career.

When you have shown efficiency, you have carte blanche and take a contested shot or heat checks once in awhile. Melo hasn't demonstrated that yet in 12 years. He's averaged 20 shot attempts or more for his career, but never converted half.

Hopefully he demonstrates better shot selection this season.

You shoot a higher percentage based on the talent around you..Melo shoots 47% the first 17 sec of the shot clock and 38% the last 7 sec when the team look for him to bail them out...Look up LeBron stats and note his percentages changes as he played with different caliber of talent..

What shooter in the history of the game stop shooting when they are "off"??..If Melo is "off", who do you want shooting the ball?

Basic basketball. If your shots off, do other things. Find open teammates, defend, rebound. Not rocket science. Don't go 10-30 and screw the team over trying to find your groove.

Clyde says it on the telecast all the time.

Where have you seen guys who scores like Melo stop shooting when they are off??..Where have you ever seen it?..Its silly commentary..Do you think guys say, hey my shot is going down so I don't have to rebound tonight..Let me stop playing defense because my rebounds is on tonight..

Melo has impressed me
