This was the most blatant display of home cooking. Not just during the game but prior to the game. This is some gangster movie type stuff that needs to be reviewed by FIBA. Surprised ESPN has not picked up on this then again they probably don't want to piss off China. Here are some examples on what happened before the game.

Everybody knew this was very political for China with the tension going on about the Spratly Islands. On the semis, the Philippines is facing Japan but Chinese coach already taking shots at the Philippines mentioning that if they lose the Philippines can have the Spratly Islands. This was more than just a game for China.

After the Philippines won in the semis China has gone to dirty tricks that seemed comical when you start reading it.

1. Chinese team does not stay in the official team hotel for ALL participating teams but stayed in better hotel. This was against FIBA rules but they got away with it. This was done since the beginning of the tournament.
2. China moved their semi final game into the early slot. They then moved the Philippines/Japan game 30min from 930pm to 10pm. The finals is the following night.
3. On day of the Finals, the Electric Bus that was assigned to Philippines was conveniently disabled. They forgot to charge the battery. This caused valuable time for the Philippines to get ready for the game. They had to wait to get the battery fixed. They did not have an alternate mode of transportation.
4. Entering the arena, they found out that a couple of their assistant coaches are not being given tickets to the game. What? yup...wait till the next bullet.
5. Finally got to the basketball floor. When the team was about to warm up and this was after all the delays...the chinese officials needed to replace the net on the rim that the Philippines was warming up on. Yup. I told you to wait.

Now on to the game.

The officiating was so bad that even NBA players chimed on the outcome after the game.

Here is a link in reddit discussing the officiating of the game.

Here are some exceprts..

After watching the game, it was either really really incompetent officiating or just plain home-cooked.

After all these years of watching basketball, I can live with a couple of bad calls during a game but this was on another level. it just takes out the momentum.

Here are some blatant examples:

Travelling while dribbling? whuuuuuuut
Backing violation when it was tapped by the opposing player
On rebound plays, fouls being called on the player boxing out.

If you are interested....here are the game footage from the game.

The funny thing is...I think China had a great chance of winning since they are a lot taller than the Filipinos. The Philippines had a punchers chance. They did not need to resort to cheating.
