http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york-knicks/post/_/id/63012/porzingis-my-moment-will-come-sooner-or-later

“Yeah, one thing is my personality and then I think I have the right people around me,” Porzingis said at Knicks’ media day. “My family keep my head straight and make sure I do the right thing and not worry about other stuff too much. That’s the main thing for a young guy in a big city like this.

“I just need to stay focused and my moment will come sooner or later.”

On getting stronger and banging with bigger players:

“Obviously I need to get stronger to guard the (centers),” Porzingis added. “But me going up against Kevin Seraphin every day (in workouts) playing the five position is great for me, going against those big bodies. But yeah, I need to gain more weight, always be in a low stance so I can hold those guys.”

Phucking Porzingis. Dude is only 20, and is probably the best and media savviest sound byte on the whole team. Just love this kid's attitude. Don't know if he'll be a superstar, all star, or even a starter in the league, but he just gets "it".

Sounds like he might not see much playing time. That's ok, when he's ready he'll be ready!

Funny thing is when he does play, and if well, some will think "Fischer kept him down"!!!! No, he was getting prepped!

Yes, the kid is very likable and his work ethic is being sold to the media. I hope knicks get this one right for a change!!!!

There is nothing not to like about how he carries himself at such a young age. He is a tough kid who will be able to handle the criticism that comes with playing in New York. He is perfect for NY

I think 20 to 25 minutes a game for KP sounds about right. Unless he has an unbelievable camp showing and just flashes greatness from the get go in the preseason, Fish and co should limit him to about half a game's worth.

If he is as advertised and has that Dirk/Pau potential, then let him grow into it. We're not winning the championship this year or next year, so let him develop. Kid truly has a 20 year old body. Does he even shave?!!

Shoulders/upper arms look much more developed.

I really don't care about his age. The kid has talent and intelligence. If he's able to find a niche then he should play 20+ this year. We'll learn a lot before the season even starts but just from what i've seen already I think he'll be just fine. He's skilled and not as raw as they made him sound and he is a very bright kid. He learns quick and I think that is what will make the biggest difference. Just watching how fast he adjusted on his own to defending OK4 told me a lot about him as a player. He's always thinking and with the kind of high level instruction he's going to be getting now it should have a real impact on his development.

Just listen to the kid talking about going up against bigger guys in their scrimmages. He's not scared or put off by the challenge. He's talking about going one on one with Melo and trying to pick up moves. It's very good to see he's hungry to get better and dedicated to training and everything he needs to do in order to get better. That's where it all starts.

He definitely gets it. As soon as he opened his mouth you could see he was a special dude.

I'm all for letting him play, but he must beat out whoever he needs to beat in practice to get there. Not simply given. If the Knicks suck and are out of playoff contention then that's a different story.

I really think we're on to something and it starts with Phil. I'm enjoying this ride

I'm very high on KP I don't think he's gonna have that much difficulty earning playing time. He's a smart kid and he was already playing in a Pro League. It's not like he was so raw that he couldn't stay on the floor. He seems to have enough BB IQ and skills and when you put that with his elite size and length he should be able to have some kind of impact.

We all saw this after his first work out with the Knicks was posted up on this board. From the workout to the interview after he just seemed like a special player. We will see how his story unfolds.

I don't get the overhype of rooks time and time again...Give these guys some breathing space..It's not an easy transition into the NBA..I saw this documentary of the travel of NBA players and the demands of the 82 game season..It's literally no joke..I'm came away thinking a lot of these guys say this isn't for me but just try to last long enough for the money...This kid not only have to deal with that, he has to play in New York...I couldn't believe Mills told the press he was watching Usain Bolt videos on running...Let the kid grow into this..His first year will be brutal..It will be eye opening..He will ask himself if he is built for this...He doesn't need to be asked if he can run like Bolt or mature beyond his years or about pizza and calories, weight and selfies in NY...He just needs to lay low and play ball...

You are the one interpreting this as "overhyping". What is your problem with KP being who he actually is? He's the one who is doing all these things that are being commented on. No one is trying to make him do more than he can do at this point. He's simply grabbing the opportunity by the horns and taking ownership of what his rookie year will be. Also PLEASE STOP with the Negative Nancy warning about how hard it is for Rookies. I mean WTF man? Should all the great players who went on to have good rookie seasons have been worried about the challenge?

KP is the #4 overall pick in NY and he's 7-3, how the F is he supposed to lay low??? It's not even remotely realistic to think he can lay low in the media capitol of the world. He has a very solid and present family support behind him. He's doing what he needs to be doing in order to be prepared for the long NBA season. That's really great for us because he's not taking it for granted. It won't be unexpected if he hits a wall at some point and they'll deal with it then as all other rookies have had to deal with it.

Rookies are like a fan's child...totally different way of looking at them.

He's pretty grounded, though, and I think he's realistic about what the NBA will be like.

In some ways he's been groomed for this stuff. Took English lessons...sent to a superior BB country when he was 15 or 16.

Can't help but be impressed by his weight gain. The fact that we can even talk about him potentially reaching 250 lbs by training camp without being called unrealistic fools by the folks who talked about his frame and how long it would take him to put on weight, is pretty amazing IMO.

Seems that he is "laying low and playing ball,' but this is NYC, and you can't get away from the media. Good times or bad times, he is going to be a focal point for the writers who love to hate the Knicks and put out provocative pieces.

No way to shield a player in this city...on this team. He's ahead of the game because he seems at ease with the NY media...now he has to develop on the court and deal with the ups and downs of the season.

So your the guy who is in the room telling people to not be so happy? Dude, your smart and of course you can see the hype. You know Nixluva is gonna lap up every drop of knick goodness and run with it.
Guess what, the other 100 on the UK on a regular basis also know there is hype but why spoil the party for some fans who extracts joy in his world reading and hoping about his favorite team. Your like the sour uncle, the bitter grampa, the envious brother, etc, who has to chime in about how your not a homer and try to bring down everyone.

NO doubt we have posters who get carried away and live and die by what the media feeds them. Why not just ignore some posts and just leave folks to discuss and be happy?

Or to focus on the fact you can't coach height. I love the idea of a guy who can block 98% of the league without so much as getting up on his toes. And of what I've seen of his blocks so far, they seem to stay in play, not get swatted into the third row.

Knick goodness. It's fun and it's less filling.

Never adjust, but I can tune it out and move on.

Im playing tennis 4 nites a week and on Saturday morning so TV time is limited and not sure about how many games i'll catch this year. THis is the only site I participate in regarding sports, music, home theatre or automobiles.

I should do even less here. But after 10 years old habits are hard to break.

Can't believe this guy is only 20. Mature beyond his years.
