Defense-Damp
Offense-Big Z

The way the knx are constituted Damp is a better fit.

I'll take Dampier and/or maybe even Stromile Swift ahead of Big Z. Isiah is apparently looking for offensive players (Perhaps to sell tickets for Dolan?) but, Swift and Dampier can lead to more wins.

Also...

Question marks- Dampier
Expiring contract- Ilgauskas
Probable big contract- Dampier
Injury concern- Ilgauskas

I really don't know. They are centers but they are also very different and have their pros and cons. If Dampier weren't such a question mark I think I would go for him.

Either would be a huge upgrade over Nazr/KT/Mutombo. I like Z better myself for his post game and expiring contract, but if Damp is the guy we get, that's cool too.

I'd also rather get either of these 2 before using all our trade assets on Crawford. Looks like Isiah feels the same way.

Yeah, its better to have a chance at bringing in a Center that can really upgrade your team. If Isiah felt so much need to get Crawford he would have included Deke, but a chance at upgrading the Center position, considering the lack of good ones in the league, is something you have to take advantage of. We don't need Crawford badly, unlike our need of frontcourt help.

Big Z! I want to see a center score more than 15 points!

Damp if only a 4 year deal. 35-37 year old damp will be Antonio Davis, highly paid and best years behind him.

I don't want any player past 35 under contract unless its a short term deal.

i agree 100%...the reason big Z is a better option is because it gives Isiah so much flexibility to make future deals...there will be many teams clamoring to get Big Z at the trade deadline...if you lock up Dampier to a huge longterm deal, it's a HUGE gamble, & it handcuffs your organization for years to come to make any other deals.

if you can get Damps at a reasonable cost, sure...but not for 7 years at over $10 mil per...that's too much for a guy his age & w/a limited history of being productive.

agreed totally. Go after Ilgauskas. Dampier signed to a huge long-term contract would kill the cap flexibility that's likely to materialize after the 05-06 season (provided Shandon and Moochy are moved). Knicks must not pick up bloated contracts for old & declining players.

Big Z is better. He can really score and sometimes looks unguardable if he has the touch. He also blocked 2.5 shots per game last year. He's not great on defense, on but then again he causes a matchup nightmare for the other teams.

Dampier is very inconsistent, has only had maybe 2 good seasons in his career...one of them last year. He still only got 12 or so ppg (though he did get a great 12 rpg). He can board, and he's super strong and a willing banger.

I think Big Z is the better overall center, however, I think Dampier is the type of center we need. We need a big guy that can rebound and block shots especially if we get Antoine Walker. Getting either one of these big guys would be a huge accomplishment but I just think Dampier is the better fit.

s3...good point. If we get another scorer (especially one who can score in the post), than maybe that swings it over to Dampier a little. I don't know if we have the flexibility to go for the best fit though, but then again, none of us really know which deal is gonna be easier to make.

I think Isiah is trying to get 2 good players for our trade bait. Think about it, he could probably get Big Z for Kurt and another one or two players like Deke and Nazr, but maybe he can get Dampier for only Nazr and someone else which would allow him to try to trade Kurt, Shandon, and expiring contracts in that 3-way deal to get Antoine Walker. So Zeke is probably trying to kill two birds with one stone. That is why he is reluctant to put Deke in that Crawford deal, and I don't blame him.

not really...Damps is about 5 inches taller, a better defender & blocks shots, & Sweets is about 8 years younger, a pure hustle player & makes a whole lot less in salary.

Sweetney's offensive post-up potential is a lot higher than where Damps' post-up game is right now.

Both power players is my point. On Offense they will be playing the same areas of the court. It would be more ideal, IMO, to get someone that can knock-down the 10ft J.

that i can understand...i think a combo of Z & Sweetney would work well together, as will a combo of Dampier & Walker...1 physical player to grab boards & another who can shoot from the outside.
