Sign him to a mid level contract. Nobody seems to be offering more than that. In the mean time, make a move for Dampier.

i agree...i think the Knicks can easily sign him to a MLE at this point w/no other suitors for him, & the Bulls won't match a max MLE offer imho...besides, Crawford won't be happy playing in CHI now...he'd be much better off in MSG.

then if the Knicks can get the sign & trade for Ilgauskas or Dampier done, they'd be in great shape heading into next season.

True. With no other team in the hunt for Crawford right now and the Bulls not helping his cause, the MLE with the Knicks is a good choice. At least they are showing more interest in Crawford than the entire league. I agree too that NY shouldn't give in to the Bulls demands. No if they can bring someone like Big Z or Dampier to NY via trade.

Im still not sure which one would be better. Big Z is a big, big, true center and an expiring contract, two great things. Dampier would demand a big contract and many question how will he play once he has his big pay. But he is a definite upgrade at center too, and better now that Shaq may be coming to the East. Don't know which one would be the better choice for NY...

I think he is convinced and his agent is convinced that Crawford is worth more than the Mid level. If he does decide to accept it he will probably try to wait a bit to see if he could get more.

I guess Chicago is not valuing Frank Williams enough in this equation- yes, the bad contracts trading hands are a wash, but they're getting an exceptional point guard who is signed for 2 years at an absolute bargain rate

Dampier at age 30 wants a 7 year deal. Damp at age 35-36-37 might not be so pretty. I want to pay attention to the future so we don't keep fighting upstream against financial constraints year after year.

4 years at 10mil each is all he is worth. I just don't understand long term deals for guys like Damp and especially Camby whom has not shown any durability in his 20's, and with an athletic game he might not last.

Damp reminds me of Elden Campbell. Big strong.

I agree. If we want Dampier, ok, but at the right price. He had a good year but it was probably because it was his contract year. Who knows how well he will play after he has his money secure. An a long contract would be a mistake. Its cool a four year, even 5 year if the price is right, but 6 or 7? With us paying him A LOT on those years when who knows if he will still be playing? No, please. If someone else wants to fall in this crazy offseason and offers him a big and long contract, fine. But not us for a guy who has some questionmarks.

I'd rather give 7yrs to damp than to camby, whi has never been durable.

At least, dampier is a banger.

I agree that 4 years, 10 mm each, for Dampier is reasonable. I doubt a lot of teams will offer him much more. Or, you can just offer him the full MLE or for 5 years, which is OK.

One guy who I would offer the full and complete MLE to is Stromile Swift. Young, healthy, super athletic. No chance West doesn't match it though. We just might end up getting NOTHING this Summer.
