Well, if it is dead, its not the end of the world for us. With a chance to bring Dampier or Ilgauskas to NY , Isiah still has better chances of upgrading the Knicks. It wasn't a make or break, anyway. I wonder what the Bulls will do then... Crawford and his agent must be !

Not only do the the Bulls want all out expiring deals, the Paxson doesn't want to sign Crawford for the deal Thomas wants to sign him..you believe the nerve...he isn't even gonna pay the guy and he is still dictating what the kid will get paid....

paxon wants to sign craw for less money because he does not want to have to take junk back like moochie, he figures if craw signs for less then less players would be involved making the deal easier for them...

w/9 players it was getting complicated. That a lot of people!

Pax has to get somthing out of it. He also sees the market as not very high for Craw. Why is Isiah bidding up Craw by himself? Curious, but I'd rather have Craw at a higher price than paying the garbage we have now. I understand Pax's position though. Craw's not going to get all his big money.

But something against Paxson is the market, which has been extremely crazy this offseason. With the deals of Marquis Daniels and Q-Rich, Crawford can claim that his value is more than the MLE, and he is right. The Bulls want to sign him for MLE-like money to make the deal, and thats something Crawford and his agent will not be happy about. With no team showing comittment on trying to deal for Crawford, it will be interesting to see what Chicago will do with that mess. Isiah doesn't really have to make this deal, he would walk away and concentrate on bringing Big Z or Dampier, so the ball is in Paxson's hands.

the Knicks can simply sign Crawford to the full MLE...i doubt the Bulls will match that anyway...Isiah is right not to give in to CHI's demands...the Bulls aren't in the position of strength here...& Crawford won't be happy playing in CHI either...it's best for all parties involved for Crawford to come to NY, & they all know it.

maybe do something like the nuggets did with kenyon, offer crawford a signing bonus. you can offer up to 25% of the total value of the contract as a one time signing bonus. if the full MLE is 6 years @ $40 mil, then the signing bonus would be $10 mil. would paxson want to give crawford $10 mil + $4.9 MLE the first year? that may be our best shot.

I think the reason Denver can do that is because they have cap room. If the knicks did that the contract would be for more than the mid level.

I believe it would be possible for Zeke to offer him full MLE with a player opt out after 3 (retaining Bird Rights)with most of the money up front (add the interest factor on the money). Then make the the 2/3 years conditional on health (deferring the tax) and insure the 2/3 years to protect the condition

Andrew-I believe the bonus is spread out over the life of the contract-that being the case-Zeke could use the max bonus for the 6 years and combine with the player opt-out

Frank Williams was included in this deal and I'm sorry, he his a good pg and he has a very reasonable contract for two years.

yes, the bad contracts getting trade balance out nearly evenly, but chicago is ahead of the game getting williams out of the deal.

And yes, perhaps Shandon Anderson and Moochie Norris have some value on a team of young players like the bulls have- both are outstanding characters- though anderson did pout this past season.

Can the offer sheet the knicks offer include player options to opt out? That way if Chicago matches, Crawford can opt out at the end of the season and be an unrestricted free agent?

Yes it is.....but the proposed contract of $10M bonus and $4.9 salary say over 5 years would have a first year value of....

$2M (10 bonus/5 years) + $4.9M = $6.9 in the first year...which wouldn't be acceptable.

I think it would have to be something like a 10M bonus with a starting salary of $2.9M

His salary the first yeat would be reduced by a proportionate share of the 10MM signing bonus so that his first year salary would be 2.9MM plus 2.0 of signing bonus so that his first year salary would cound 4.9 even though he actually received 12.9MM.

Paxon will blink and when he does, Zeke will take it to the hoop.

I agree, Sage, I would also try and get cute with more money and bonuses on playing time and if they can endorsement money...

I agree Phil. I think Zeke going one on one with Paxson in negotiations is gonna have a similar result as if they played one on one on the court. Zeke'll get it done.

It should be an interesting next several days. It's a shame the idiots on WFAN think that the Nets are New York's team...

The Knicks will always be New York's team no mater how bad we are. And thats also changing slowly. Imagine if we made some of the deals that have been rumored and the Nets lose K-Mart to the Nuggets. Things could change again. Anyway, personally, they could have been winning but I really didn't like the Nets team. They just looked so arrogant, specially Martin. And that gray uniform....
