Travis Trice and the New York Knicks have agreed upon a partially guaranteed one-year deal.

Trice went undrafted out of Michigan State in 2015 and gives the Knicks depth at point guard.

Trice played for the Miami Heat in Summer League.

Don't watch much NCAA so not familiar with him.
I'm under the assumption any partially guaranteed deals at this point include a handshake agreement to spend the year in Westchester.

He's small and not overly athletic at all(He can dunk but not in traffic). He's got some basketball savvy but hes far from an NBA player. I dont see him as a guy who's a threat to finish at the rim in the halfcourt--I dont see him as big or quick enough to stop NBA tier 1 guards and his jumpshot is ok. He has INTANGIBLES --like a poor mans Napier although he has more explosion than Napier.

Honestly, not a bad little move. My buddy was just saying Anthony Roberson but I think he's more than that...He's decent. Good outside shooter and he can make plays. Had a lengthy stretch of real solid play leading up to and throughout the tourney, including an impact game against Duke where Coach K was giving him a ton of praise entering that final game. Had a few double digit assist games during the year...Wouldn't be a terrible extra guard to carry provided we can't come up with anything else. At least it's apparent they're still in search of some backcourt help.

He was the driving force behind Michigan states run to the final 4. So he's a good player. Slim chance to make the team but he's not a bum at all

Agreed. This guy may be a better player than Galloway.

I don't see that. He lacks the physical tools. But he could turn into a a solid, deep bench guy in the league. At the very least, he'll provide a talent boost to the D-League squad.

He was pretty overwhelmed in the SL physically--he wasnt very good from what I saw. I think this might be the case of a senior PG having a decent year--hes a tough kid with some skills and intangibles--but he's not as skilled or as quick as Shane Larkin who is no longer here.

Trice was picked as a top 5 underrated prospect by draftnet just before the draft.
Travis Trice, Michigan State

This one’s a deep sleeper, and there’s a lot of flaws for critics to point out, but Travis Trice can really play. In the tournament, he absolutely balled out, carrying his team through their dry spells, all the way to the Final Four. The Spartans were one of the lower-seeded teams in the past decade to make the Final Four, and a huge part of that is owed to Travis Trice. He is listed at a Lilliputian 6’0” and 170 lbs., so right away, he sounds like a guy that could really get bullied at the next level. But Trice is such a crafty scorer and distributor that every time he stepped on the floor, the dynamic of his team’s offense changed dramatically. He can create off the dribble, he’s a great shooter, he’s a solid distributor, and all the best intangibles are there, whether it’s his basketball IQ or his leadership or his will to win. He certainly looked like the most confident player in the tournament during MSU’s Final Four run, but despite all his confidence, he doesn’t generally try to do too much. Maybe the second round is a perfect range for his skillset, but he could very well be one of the most productive and long-lasting players picked in the second round. The 6-foot listing is likely selling Trice short in a literal sense. When matching up to other prospective NBA point guards, he can certainly hold his own from a physical standpoint. But after not even receiving a combine invitation, Trice is facing an uphill battle, but for a team that wants a proven winner late in the draft, rather than European draft-and-stash player who could very well never see meaningful NBA minutes, Trice could be a great pickup. Isaiah Thomas wrote the blueprint on how to earn a place in the NBA as an undersized point guard picked late in the draft; best-case scenario for Trice: he follows a similar path and battles his way into a steady backup point guard role.

Interesting perspective by Berman...

The Knicks have found a way to stash players with their D-League team in Westchester while having them make more than the minor league’s max of $25,000.

The Knicks have agreed to terms on a partially guaranteed deal on former Michigan State point guard Travis Trice, according to a source, and announced Virginia power forward Darion Atkins and Wesley Saunders of Harvard have signed their deals. All three are undrafted rookies.
Atkins and Saunders agreed to terms in August but weren’t able to take their physicals until after Labor Day because the team’s full medical staff wasn’t available.

Trice, Atkins and Saunders are considered training-camp bodies who will be cut when the rosters are reduced to 15 before the regular season. But they all have small guarantees in the $50,000-$75,000 range, hence, they can agree to play in the D-League for Westchester, knowing they have been compensated, and it does not technically skirt any D-League cap rules.

It’s a good ploy by team president Phil Jackson and general manager Steve Mills for players they want to develop.

I approve of this tactic. We've got to restock the D League team in addition to looking for more depth with the big team and players in the pipeline for the future. It's a bit more fair to the kids than forcing them to play for pennies or losing them to foreign clubs.

As long as it doesn't eat into Grant's minutes...

D League as a depth play is fine.

I really like this acquisition. I'm not so sure he's destined for the D-League. Probably--we already have Calderon as the de facto starter at the point followed by Grant--then I think they're gonna want to take another big SG for depth behind Afflalo, whether that's Vujacic, TA or Saunders (hopefully we take a good long look at some of the other options that may become available as well) but if they value more PG depth, I think there's a chance TT could make the squad. Probably won't be a stud but I think he's talented and capable enough to play some backup NBA PG--the kid's crafty, shifty, obviously shoots it well enough & can create his own shot, handles it, orchestrates, makes plays for others, is battle tested and has proven he can rise to the occasion. That's a lot of good qualities, man. Definitely more of a purer PG than Galloway... At the very least, he's a quality depth piece to have and develop in the DL. If anything happens to Calderon and Jerian's forced to take over at some point, this kid could be a nice replacement (much better option than Andre Barrett -- Trice is slightly bigger, a lot younger and flat out better than Barrett). Is it me or does this dude have a lot of Mike Bibby to his game?

Nixluva is posting triangle screen grabs, even when nobody asks - Fishmike. LOL So are we going to reference that thread like the bible now? "The thread of Wroten Page 14 post 9" - EnySpree
