He's got good size if you consider him a 2 but I think he's a slow lower skilled 3 who has a long road ahead of him to sniff the nba. He's not use to playing against high level athletes and that video is an embarrassment in any respect.

His shot, towards the end, seems more like he is pushing the ball.

If he has problems getting it off, he is going to have to work on less push and more wrist, from higher up.

He's by no means a roster lock at this point but when you look at the fact that we didn't retain Shved (a mistake imho) and haven't heard about any other backcourt training camp signings thusfar, you get the feeling they may think this dude's a keeper...Maybe they see something with this guy we don't but based on what I see--looks like he can stroke it and he looks big enough but yeah, that release looks ultra slow, he doesn't really look that athletic at all, and his to-the-basket game looks awkward and slow as well--no idea how he's going to get shots off in the NBA. Hard to believe they viewed this guy higher than other good options that were out there--skilled combo guards like Shved, Elliot Williams, an underrated skilled combo like Dominique Jones perhaps; straight up scoring 2s like Orlando Johnson/Kevin Murphy or snipers like a Jerrell Eddie or even this dude Sean Kilpatrick from Cincy who played well in the DL and very well for Milwaukee's SL team. Last I heard, the Laker's invited Kilpatrick to training camp. Kilpatrick looks > Saunders to me...Or other legit options for more PG depth...Outside of Robin Lopez (a gross overpay imo--still, he's capable) I like what Phil did with the frontline--marked improvement and he gets credit there. I love grabbing Grant in the draft and like the Afflalo signing but the backcourt feels unfinished compared to what he did to revamp the frontline. We needed more than those 2. I'm not sure Saunders is the answer. Find out soon enough..

I wanted Shved back as well but he is out of euro basket with a back injury and may just be too frail for the nba. I think Saunders and Atkins got partial guarantees so that the guarantee money makes up for the money lost playing in Westchester. I think the Knicks would be smart to look at guys that get cut in training camp. Philly has a ton of guards going to camp. Dallas has some really nice prospects that they signed before filling out their roster with quality vets. I am sure there are other teams that are brining quality guys to camp that they won't be able to keep. Saunders and Atkins look like WKnicks to me.

His calling card is going to be D. He'll have a fighting chance if he gets that corner 3 down.

One guy I'm keeping an eye on: Sean Kilpatrick. I really liked what I saw from that guy in SL. He's no Michael Jordan but he looks like a far more advanced SG prospect than Wes Saunders. Every aspect of his game looks better -- quicker with and w/o the ball (looks like he could be a real tough cover the way he's always in constant motion along with the ability to utilize screens properly); he can stop on a dime and launch accurately from anywhere with a quick trigger (much quicker than Saunders) and his slash game looks much better as well. Not exactly on Alexey Shved's level but it looks like he's also capable of making plays for others with the ball in his hands as well. Not just a shooter -- this guy looks pretty strong and he finishes well at the basket..Looks fundamentally sound overall with a little craftiness to his game. Kilpatrick's got a little Kelenna Azubuike to him, maybe a tick below athletically. He really reminds me of a poor man's Ray Allen.. No idea what the Lakers' are thinking with this kid but if their plan is to just offer a partially guaranteed deal and throw him in the DL (they just picked up D'Angelo Russell in the draft and have a lot of other good guards in the mix over there as well), maybe we go a step further and offer Kilpatrick a spot on our 15-man, maybe even a rotation spot as a backup 2 behind Afflalo if they sever ties with him at some point. I really like Thanasis Antetokounmpo and think he will be an NBA contributor eventually but it looks like he may need more seasoning in the DL. Kilpatrick looks NBA-ready though:

So far, it seems Thanasis don't have to worry about battling Saunders for the last spot

There's a reason Phil brought Saunders in. People need to relax on making so much of a snippet from a workout. The Knicks know how to scout players and they won't just bring in a guy who can't bring anything to the table. He has some flaws that would seem to make him a very lack luster prospect but if you look at his strengths you can kind of see what it is that intrigues Phil about the kid. He's a Combo Guard that has size, can distribute and defend. Those kind of guards are usually the kind that excel in the Triangle.

However, Saunders has shown the ability to distribute and create offense for his teammates as well as just scoring, as he posted 5.1 assists per 40 minutes pace adjusted fourth among shooting guards in our top 100 prospects. He doesn't make flashy passes but he keeps his teammates involved and the ball moving within the Harvard offense.

Defensively, Saunders is a bit of a mixed bag and could turn into either an asset or a source of frustration at the next level. In on-ball situations, he can move his feet well laterally and use his strong frame to contain penetration, and his long arms to contest shots.

Off the ball, he anticipates passes and using his length to force turnovers, as he averaged 2.2 steals per 40 minutes pace adjusted, ninth among all prospects in our top 100. He's also an active rebounder, as his 7.3 total rebounds per 40 minutes pace adjusted ranked third among shooting guards in our top 100.

Doesn't mean he'll make it but I can understand the interest in him.

I mean the guy made 7-9 out of threes!!!!.... why must we completely omit what good we see on anything and simply focus on the potential negatives there may be?

I would imagine most players are working on their shot. Not all post videos. That does not mean it don't happen.

Saunders is one of those big, tough, physical and well rounded guards that Phil likes. He's not going to excite you as some super athletic SG's might. He wouldn't be here to be a sharpshooter but rather a guy who is smart and versatile. A guy who can defend and has the right mental approach to the game. He's very similar to a Brian Shaw.

Nixluva is posting triangle screen grabs, even when nobody asks - Fishmike. LOL So are we going to reference that thread like the bible now? "The thread of Wroten Page 14 post 9" - EnySpree

Lakers just signed a point guard from brazil and are rumored to be signing Metta. Have to wonder if Kilpatrick will be available. They have a very crowded backcourt.

Was thinking the same thing about Kilpatrick. I like that guy's game. If LA's adding 2 additional players now, you figure that only increases the likelihood that Kilpatrick eventually becomes available. He looked great in SL--we should've offered a training camp contract to that guy immediately. Definitely someone to keep an eye on... I hope I'm wrong but I just don't think Wes Saunders is what we're looking for. Meanwhile I really like TA, more than Cleanthony Early (I think TA can be a better version of Gerald Wilkins, a very decent player in his day) but I can understand if they don't think he's ready and want him logging heavy minutes in the DL to start the year. And then I don't feel good about Calderon and Galloway as core rotation guards expected to log big minutes. We need another skilled guard imo, preferably one with some versatility. It feels like an oversight on Phil's part, but one that should be correctable...Just looking around the league before at team rosters--I wonder if we could get one of these guys in exchange for Early (looking at similar salary level players with similar experience/potential):

Spencer Dinwiddie
Jordan Clarkson
CJ McCollum
Erick Green
E'twaun Moore
Seth Curry
Russ Smith (player option picked up first, then traded to Knicks)
Bryce Cotton (player option picked up first, then traded to Knicks)
Nick Johnson
Allen Crabbe (not the combo. guard or facilitator I'd like, this dude's a legit 2, but probably a better option than Saunders)
