There's no way to know, but it seems like Phil is planning on being here for a while. He set up the team with more long term prospects. From his comments it sounds like he really wants to see the team return to winning before he leaves. He doesn't have to see a title before he leaves but I think he wants to see the team playing winning ball. So that says to me that he isn't looking to bolt right away.

He's old so it was always known he only had so much time he could give us. We'll see how it plays out but I think he really is committed to seeing this be a success.

I guess this kind of stuff really does appeal to some people. Some eat up Melo rumors with Glee. Some just love that Knicks just burn thru Gm's and Presidents.

He has a contract for 4 more seasons so I expect him to be here, just like any other under contract.
"According to ESPN"???? Its a POLL!!!!!

After a 17 win season, its not a given to be enthusiastic so ESPN is catering to the masses. Fans on the UK are hopefull. Chuckbuck is "THAT GUY", you know, "THAT GUY WHO JUST HAS TO BE THAT GUY WHO JUST TAKES THE OBVIOUS AND MAKES IT HIS"........Dude, we know the team will be better than last year, and we know the playoffs are not likely.

1. Melo has been more Adrian Dantly and Bernard king. PUts up big numbers but has not been on great teams most of his career. Guess what, we all get that. We hope that changes a bit.
2. Dolan is a flake and has a history of meddling with the team and hiring from emotion. So if he meddles, Phil walks. Guess what, we all know that. We hope that changes. He said he would.

What else does ChuckBuck want to own? Did you know the market would drop last week? Hey, what about Chinese stocks? You got that too?

Is it better for melo to fail, and phil to walk so you can be "that guy"?

Nalod,

I'm going to go with 2 more years, to see his plans come to fruition.

Phil will want to see what he has with Porzingis first, before he decides his own Knicks fate.

The better and further along Porzingis develops into a stud, the longer Phil stays. Easiest answer ever.

If KP busts out, Phil will gallup into the sunset of his Montana ranch.

Phil is 70... let's hope he cab stay healthy enough to be around on earth let alone knicks president.

All jokes aside Phil won't be the president into his 80s. He will eventually have a successor. I think next season will be the Knicks year. So in possibly 2 years Phil will probably start to reign in his involvement. That's just logical.

I went with 2 years. I dont know how we'll do this year but I don't think he'll just punk out because he didn't land DJ/LA/Monroe etc. I'm guessing he'll stick around a little longer but unless we truly shock everyone this year I'm not convinced we will attract any really good FA's next year either and he may begin to plan his retirement.

I think he stays long term. His job can't be worse than it was last year and from those interview's he given it looks like between Mills, Fisher, Gaines (and the rest of the scouts), and Houston running around doing a lot of the leg work all he needs to is manage the overall picture of the team.

So his job is not that hard if the proper system is set up and he's done that so far. Right now he is as much a decision maker as anything else and considering his background that is a perfect job. He should make it through this contract and might even re-up if the knicks are doing well. You see ancient CEO's and Presidents of organizations like colleges all the time.

Next years FA is a pretty meh outside of KD, the draft is looking real suspect too. I think re-signing any/all of the knicks FA who play well long term (afflalo, Seraphin, and/or Williams) would take precedent over anything else. I feel next year will be another development year for the youth and an attempt to fill roster holes. If the knicks came away from 2016 FA with a decent passing wing like Evan Turner I would be really happy.

ESPN, the coin flip of sports reporting. Hey! they were wrong about the division when we won it! Hey! they were right when we won 38 games!

Wait long enough, and like Barkley, they'll come around. When they have to.

Excellent post!!! I think you're spot on. As Phil said. A President Presides!!! He's got his crew under him doing a lot of the heavy lifting and he can make the executive decisions and set the course.

Red Auerbach stayed as a consultant well past his GM days. Phil might want to retire. Who knows.
