I would love this move for sentimental reasons.

And I think he'd fit the second unit's need for a SG.

No surprise here, we badly need some scoring from the bench, but would Crawford be a good fit for the offense?

please god no!!!!
knicks win 38-43 games in 16-17. rose MUST shoot no more than 14 shots per game, defer to kp6 + melo, and have a usage rate of less than 25%

Notice how Phil's name isn't mentioned here. This is about the furthest player I could see Phil wanting for his system. I don't like the fit either... Moving past that for a sec -- we're at the cap ceiling. Crawford makes $5.675mm -- any trade would have to match salary for the most part, no? Who do we give up to get him? Calderon + a sweetener for taking on Jose's extra salary (Early?), maybe I'd listen to something like that. I probably make this type of move to dump Jose's final year of his contract, not because I love Crawford and think we need him. I wonder if that's how the Knicks are looking at this if there's even any truth to the rumor..

This is all Phil...He needs a big guard who can handle the ball...He wants nice guys in the locker room...He needs vets that can handle NY...He needs another one on one guy outside of Melo when the triangle breaks down...

I don't think Phil would wanna touch Jamal Crawford with a 10 foot pole..

i witnessed crawford being utterly exposed as one of the worst playoff performers ever against the rockets. he is a useless jayvee superstar.

only way it makes sense is somehow dump calderon and promote grant.

What part of his game doesn't fit with exactly with what Phil is doing?

+1 - Agree this is the only way it makes any sense. He really got exposed in that Rockets series.

Isola saying the Knicks still have the trade exception from the JR Smith trade? I thought they had to renounce that to get cap room? Anyone know?

The Knicks have expressed interest in acquiring Clippers guard Jamal Crawford, according to a source.

The Knicks would use the trade exception that they obtained from Cleveland in last year's J.R. Smith trade. Coincidentally, the Cavs are also pursuing a deal for Crawford, the 34 year old former Sixth Man of the Year. Miami is another team that is also interested in Crawford.

Smith opted out of the final year of his contract and remains unsigned. Crawford becomes an unrestricted free agent on July 1.

Crawford signed a free agent deal with the Knicks 11 years ago and was one of then-President Isiah Thomas' first signature moves. Crawford was eventually traded in Nov. 2008 to Golden State by Donnie Walsh as the Knicks began clearing cap space.

Crawford has maintained close ties with several high ranking officials in the organization, including Garden Chairman James Dolan and Thomas, who currently runs the Liberty.

Crawford has played for six teams over 15 seasons. He averaged 15.8 points in 64 games last season for the Clippers.

Other than Carmelo Anthony, the Knicks lack a proven scorer on their roster. Crawford has attempted 5,195 three-pointers in his career.

He's a ball-dominant gunner with declining skills. Been there done that with JR Smith. Better handle than Smith but doesn't do much with that outside of trying to create his own shots--at least that's the player I remember. I see a player that will be taking shots away from other key players too, guys we're trying to find out about on that 2nd unit -- KP, D-Will, Grant, maybe an Early, Saunders, Thanasis. I'd rather see those guys divide up those shot attempts...But hey, if we can turn Jose Calderon into a Jamal Crawford expiring contract which could open up what, another $7.7+mm in salary next summer, you definitely take a look at that.

So I guess the question is...
Would you like to see a Crawford for Caledron trade?
The Future is Bright!

How would it even work using the JR Smith trade exception? How much is that exception worth? We can go out and just add a player for however much it's worth even those we're at the cap ceiling? I agree with you guys man -- only way it makes sense is if they agree to take Calderon. Otherwise, I'd pass..
