Hey Knicks fans. I made a breakdown video analyzing Porzingis's summer league performance. I take a look at some strengths and weaknesses of his. Let me know what you think of his SL showing and thanks for watching.

pretty good analysis. everyone is entitled to be skeptical, ie take a wait and see approach. but then again we are looking at only several games in summer league against players he has not had the opportunity to study. given how he changed his approach in the course of one game against okafor it seems to me that on defense he will figure things out quickly in the one on one defense, learning how to utilize his length better against stronger an shorter players.

you mention his hands-- you may have a point there as having good hands is a god-given gift, being part of hand-eye coordination. rebounding may also remain a weak part of his game... not sure about that.

anyway good job.

knicks win 38-43 games in 16-17. rose MUST shoot no more than 14 shots per game, defer to kp6 + melo, and have a usage rate of less than 25%

Overall very nice job of scouting KP's Summer League performance. I do think perhaps you're being a bit too tough on his fit for the Triangle tho. I don't think he's had the best coaching up to this point. Most of his issues are merely bad big man fundamentals. Very teachable things. Of course a lot of it will be addressed with physical training and getting stronger. IMO KP is WAY behind other young prospects in term of strength and conditioning. He's gonna look like a totally different player when his body is brought up to NBA levels.

I hope the coaching staff gave KP a list of things he needs to improve on so he can share that with his Trainer. I'd love to see them really work him through some rebounding drills and give him some tips on anticipation of where the ball will come off and using leverage against his opponent. I'd throw him tons of passes and lobs to see if we could improve his eye to hand coordination on catching the ball.

His post game should be one area where he can make a huge amount of growth by learning better post moves. I think he's got the coordination to be able to do that. There's no reason he can develop the needed skills to be able to thrive in the Triangle. It's mostly just fundamentals and basic moves that will allow KP to be able to beat his man more consistently. His moves are very rudimentary at this point, but again this is all very fixable. I don't think it's because he CAN'T do it but rather that he hasn't been taught how to do it yet. This kid just needs a big man camp badly.

excellent breakdown and i think it was fair. I think he has potential as a stretch 5 but right now hes simply not strong enough to drive, defend or rebound. he would thrive in a PNR offense. another concern of mine is his health. i was there in vegas at the games. when he was not playing, they sent him to the hall way to stretch and workout his hips. he was wincing and already limping around in pain. that struck me as a red flag. he obviously showed that hes talented and tough but at this point its his HEALTH/LACK OF STRENGTH that concerns me the most.
Knicks should be improved: win about 40 games and maybe sneak into the playoffs. Melo, Rose and even Noah will have some nice moments however this team should be about PORZINGUS. the sooner they make him the primary player, the better

I agree that his scouting report on kp not fitting the triangle is false... kp has the skill set to flourish in the triangle he can really spread the floor with his shooting he also has a high basketball iq and it shows with his passing ability from the high post... again its summer league and kp is only 19... what i really liked that is very triangle oriented is kp's off the ball movement to get open looks in the high post...he'll give melo a nice option to dump the ball to ether in the high post or outside when he is double teamed. the triangle is going to make kp's transition into the nba very easy for him because the triangle suits his ability to hit the open shot, as well as pass to the open man from the post... i to would like to see a signature move from him but that will come with time and a signature move is not needed for a pf or c in the triangle, we can leave that to melo... ewing didn't have that turnaround baseline fadeaway at 19 ether.

Triangle non fits are few and mostly attitudinal attributes. Granted, a high volume shooter in a contract year might not be down for the system, or a player with very raw athletic ability.

At 7-3 and mobile this cat can hit from anywhere on the court and he is gonna get a lot of free looks. At 7-3 he can either shoot over parameter defense and if a big comes to to get him, he can go right by them, or dribble to a double and hit an open man.

Even that'she not a given. Look at how much Trevor Arizona was able to develop with the lakers. Krista has shown the ability to hit the I and move without the ball. Those attributes will keep him from being a total liability in the triangle. Plus, I think we can expect to see more PnRs thrown in if the summer league is any indication.

KP wasn't as aggressive as he would otherwise try to be and I think it actually made him look worse. When you are aggressive and get the ball in scoring situations I think it helps to be more decisive. Either catch and shoot, drive or pass. By hesitating he made things harder for himself. In the offense you don't have to force things. Simply moving and moving the ball will create openings to shoot or if a defender closes out to you, drive or if you simply aren't open then pass. Until he develops more one on one moves he can survive with those simple rules. KP doesn't have to force something out of nothing in the Triangle.
