That's strange. I wonder what the heck happened? It's odd to have such a short stint unless there was some kind of personal issue that Hodges had which made him unfit to remain as coach. I can't imagine what you could really learn in just 4 games on the job. I hope they explain what the heck is going on with the coaching job in Westchester.

From what I have read, Hodges is a pretty unique individual. There definitely is more to this. Also, with his ties to Phil it doesn't seem like this would be a move Houston could make without consulting Phil first.

I just dont have a good feel for the triangle. If players at Westchester were having problems the same way the Knicks had--its just going to be hard to run regularly. I dont see melo conforming here--does anyone else? Melo is going to see the need to step up and score because we dont have many scorers in a league where scores are going higher.(and Im not blaming Melo here--he will still try to help us win)

Yeah. He coached the last 4-5 games of the season.

Maybe he is not head coaching material. Maybe he got a higher paying gig. Maybe he got in trouble. Maybe he did not adhere to a club policy. Maybe he did not do what he was asked to do. Maybe he wanted to leave but getting fired got him paid. Maybe he messed up. Maybe he is done coaching. Maybe he has a legal problem. Maybe he inherited a lot of money. Maybe he hit on Allans wife. Maybe he hit on Allan. Maybe he hates Dolans music. Maybe he is going to china. Maybe its a lot of things.

Wonder if this was a Dolan shot towards Phil?

I bet Dolan don't even know who he is. What makes you even insinuate that?

Lol odds are very likely Dolan has no clue who he is.

Hodges was an assistant in the D-league and he coached the last 4 games. Thats it.
From that, Briggs gets that HOdges becomes a pawn sacrificed in some war between Dolan and Phil, that by any account does not exist or any evidence of late there is a tiff?
Looks to me that Phil is very much in control. The one litmus test is Melo not being the focal point of the franchise.

perhaps Knicks know who they want to bring in and Hodges won't be part of the new staff. Hodges might be a triangle kind of guy but not might have been a good teacher. Im guessing.

I thought Phil had total autonomy over all basketball related decisions.

He tried to sack the medical staff, and got his wrist slapped no.

Without any other reading, I have to assume Phil made this decision.

Maybe they're making room for Derek Fisher and Phil is going to coach

Or maybe is making a return!

Knicks are considering Bryan Gates to coach their D League Team
Posted on July 30, 2015
According to DLeague Digest the Knicks are conidering hiring Bryan Gates to coach the Westchester Knicks. Gates is known and respected for his work as a developmental coach in the NBA. Gates also has won two coach of the year awards in the D League and a D League championship. Gates has an extensive resume and is considered an up and comer in the coaching ranks. Gates most recently was the developmental coach on the Pelicans. Here is former Pelicans coach Monty Williams on Gates, “He’s been a head coach in some different situations – minor leagues, overseas. He’s a grinder. He’s all-in. One thing about Bryan, he doesn’t care what he looks like (when he’s working with players). He wants to be effective and is trying to help us win. He’s great in player development, and his preparation for games is second to none.”

Nice. That would be a great hire. Also it is going outside the triangle family.

base on reports coming out of SL, they will adjust the system to fit the players, instead of the other way around

I was more less talking about the NBA knicks, since he mention Melo. I recall Fisher sayingg more P&R, more uptempo, and being less predictable

The tweaks that were added last year and are being prioritized even more this year are PLAYS or ACTIONS within the Triangle SYSTEM. The Triangle isn't a play. The Triangle is a system that gives the players as a team a means of reacting to whatever the defense presents. A PnR or a Drag Screen is just an added action in the overall Triangle system, which is a PROVEN Team Oriented Ball and Player Movement System.

Fish adding the Drag Screens early in the possession adds complexity to the Triangle and makes it harder for teams to just set up for the normal Triangle actions and take away what the Knicks are intending to do in the Triangle. With pushing the ball and getting into the Drag Screens the defense has to react to the Drag Screens which are happening with the Guard and a big, while the other Knicks players are moving behind that action at the top, which creates even more lanes to attack the basket even quicker. So this change creates more early offense opportunities even without a fast break.

Now after running those initial Drag Screen actions if the defense shuts that down, the players still have the Triangle actions. The spacing will still be the same as usual in the Triangle, but they will flow into it differently. Now they can also run a PnR in the Pinch Post 2 Man Game, instead of just the Give n Go, if they want to. It should all flow more smoothly and less robotic and predictably out of the same Triangle spacing.
