Really cool tournament going on on ESPNU. Put together a team of friends, enter this thing called "The Basketball Tournament" and if you win the thing you get a million dollars. Lots of college guys who never made pro, D-League guys, and just some very good players who never had the opportunity. Real fun to watch. And that million dollar prize really is something. Can't wait for the finals next weekend.

But one thing I should mention is Ike Diogu is killing it in this tournament. His team just lost, but he killed. So just this past week I saw...
- Maurice Ndour
- Josh Harrelson
- Jeremy Tyler
- Ike Diogu
all play ball at an extremely high level.

Hmmm, what do those guys have in common?
Knicks sure know how to hold onto talent, don't they.

You forgot Cuttino! They couldn't be "killing it" due to the level of competition they currently playing, could they?

For the record, I loved Jorts when he was here. Sad he wasn't able to stick in the league after we traded him. But are we really going to start kicking ourselves over not using a roster spot on guys 29 other teams agree aren't worth a roster spot?

Maybe if things work out perfectly, we'll release Lance or Lou to clear a roster spot. Then you can start a new thread when another team picks them up.

The best of a bunch of NBA failures and d leaguers? Cmon. Knicks didn't miss out. I like some of those guys. I was pissed when we flipped Tyler for Acy but it's still a bunch of end of the bench type players at best.

You're going beyond self parody- you make JR look like a genius

How many of those players are signed? How many played significant minutes last season?

Wait you're blaming the Knicks for losing Ike Diogu? You're right they should've given him a max deal.

Srsly WTF. Some tourney against mostly amateur and non NBA competition means less than nothing. Come on man this post can't be serious.

Firewoodson is a one trick pony- all he does is create the same dumb dumb thread over and over and over and over and over and over and over again then disappear. He's either an idiot or a troll- probably both.

Those guys are on a team because they are expected to help the team. Why pay the 13th or 14th guy on a roster any money if he has no value? Teams have guys on "the end of the bench" because they are a valuable asset to that team.

Come on, only kids and ESPN Sports Center watchers think sports is just about the LeBrons or Bradys of the leagues. I appreciate the guys - the Cole Aldrichs, the Bill Walkers - who come off that end of the bench and give their all to aid the team. Harrelson, Diogu, Tyler, and Ndour were those guys.

No worries. Aside from Ndour those guys have been available every offseason if that is how you want to use your last spots on your roster.

Exaggeration. And you just named Billy Walker. I rest my case.

So in your opinion, if you are not on the LeBron-Kobe-Durant level, you are worthless to a team.

I rest my case that there are sports "fans" out there who just watch the ESPN Sports Center Highlights of LeBron putting up 60 and think that is what sports is all about. No room at all for the Bill Walkers of the world. If you can't be an NBA Fifty Greatest Of All Time, who needs you?
Thanks for proving my point.

Yeah, the problem with your argument is that there is a vast gulf of players in between Lebron and Billy Walker. Nobody is saying a player has to be either on the level of Lebron or they suck. The point you are missing is that at "Billy Walker" level, the players are essentially interchangeable because they aren't good enough to move the needle in any significant way. In a sense they are the luckiest dudes on the planet they mostly warm the bench because they have at minimum the talent to play spot minutes in the NBA and are paid pretty well considering that fact. They float from team to team every offseason to fill out rosters. Sure, they can be important cogs now and again. But the other players on the team, the first and second unit guys, are the most important and they dont have to "all be Lebrons" nor is anyone here saying that.

To use these end of the rotation bench warmers as some kind of indictment of the Knicks is beyond comical and everyone seems to get that but you. These players rotate teams year in and year out on minimum level deals and if one of them walks at the end of the year you simply flip the rolodex and grab another one the following season.

So there is plenty of room for good players IN BETWEEN Lebron and Billy Walker. Its called 90% of the NBA and nobody is arguing otherwise. You seem to have a hard on because you saw Ike Diogu own some accountant in an Pro-Am tournament and decided to make an inane post as if that proves anything. The Knicks have decades of ineptitude to mine and that's what you decide to hone in on? LMAO, man. Too funny.

Hmm, I feel your argument is made senseless by the name Dellavedova. Ask Steph Curry if Deli didn't "move the needle in any significant way."

Oh, and by the way, our man Lou was a "Rolex name" and bounced around continuously. Don't you now laugh at all those teams that let a high character, hard-working, intelligent, skilled player like him walk? We are a better team because of the Lous of the league.

Dude, you dismiss NBA players just because he is on the end of the bench! This is an NBA PLAYER! Barkley himself said it best: Any guy in the NBA can play. You make it this far, you got serious game.

IM NOT DISMISSING THEM. Im saying they are INTERCHANGEABLE at that level. Come on, dude.

And Dellavedora moved the needle for 1 or 2 quarters... and the Cavs didn't win and I missed it somehow, did I?

Don't bother. Its the same script over and over again with the Poster Firewoodson........

A) Find a FORMER Knick player, training camp invitee, draft pick, D-League or Summer League player

B) Portray that player in some ultra positive way

C) Express disgust at the Knicks incompetence for letting the player go

D) Dramatically increase the thread count near the end of the season and into playoffs

As there is an endless amount of cast-offs from any NBA team - FireWoodson will have an endless amount of threads to create on this subject in the future.

Ike Diogu has had a dozen chances outside of a knicks training camp to make it in the NBA and didn't do it. At this point multiple teams have also given up on Tyler and Jorts. You ever heard of a AAAA player? Its a guy who's better than the minors but not worthy of the majors. Unfortunately that's where a lot of these guys end up.

hey... if you got back 10 years you will see I wanted Ike over Sweetney. That was 100% a franchise changer. Great post Woodson!

Man, don't even get me started on Mike Sweetney. Just as recently as last year, he was signed to Brujos de Guayama in Puerto Rico. This man was a lottery pick, coming from the same program that brought us Patrick Ewing. You're trying to tell me he was good enough for Puerto Rico but we couldn't find a spot for him on our 17 win team?!

(Also, fun fact - if you look up Mike Sweetney on basketball-reference.com, a sponsored page credits him for the quote: "I discovered a meal between breakfast and brunch" ~ Mike Sweetney)
