This would be a weird signing to me and would smell like trying to appease Melo.

I'd be pretty surprised if he didn't just stay in Houston - he makes sense there and played well for them.

He's actually a pretty good passer from what I've seen and I think I've heard he defends well. I wouldn't mind if they can rein in his jumpers and have him on a short contract.

Well if we're going back a few years, that puts Smith ahead of Afflalo. We're talking about at most the 2.8 mil exception, right? I'd rather have a mediocre idiot for 2.8 mil than a mediocre nice guy for 16 mil/2 yrs. Don't forget that Morey, who knows more about the advanced stats than we do, thought Smith on a cheap contract was worthwhile.
