Before phil got here the knicks seemed to throw away every pick they had for nearly 15 years. However phil knows that in order to have sustainable success you need picks. Sure he had had some hiccups as GM mainly the tyson trade but what i like most is that the draft is just as important as free agency. The tim hardaway trade was a hell of a trade for us. I have a feeling phil will find his way into the draft next year hopefully getting a first rounder we lost from grunwald

I agree. Grunwald only traded one first round pick while he was in NY but it was for Bargs.

Yes that is an important distinction. It actually is better than we have Phil in that role since he can stand back from the day to day GM work and stay focused and clear headed about everything going on with the franchise. I think it's a plus to have Phil stay out of the day to day discourse with other GM's. Phil is sticking with his strengths. He's evaluating how the team functions as a whole and what needs to be done to improve that.

He did the right thing in the draft over the last 2 seasons. Also did a nice job with UDFA's. We have some nice young talent in development. I suspect that he eventually make a deal to get us a 2016 pick. His M.O. has been to add picks and young talent.

Not all will work out but he's been taking flyers on young guys.

Its a GM who can say no to our owner that you should be thankful for.

We've had GMs that valued the draft. Dolan never had patience!

I had heard Grunwald didn't want to make that trade. CAA did. Grunwald walked after CAA and Dolan forced the trade on him.

dude the more and more i look at the draft (never really paid attn because we never really had reason to) i realize there maybe 12 quality starters in the entire draft every yr, more then 50% are out of the league in 4 to 5 yrs, 25% never become starters.

The best draft class in the last 10 years has been the 2011 draft class, of the first 30 players picked, every single one of them are currently in the NBA and are rotation players

that draft class, notable names

Kyrie
jimmy buttler
kanter
shumpert
kawhi
kember
brandon knight
triston thomas
tobias
kenneth faried
reggie jackson
nikola Mitoric- who just joined the league last season
chandler parson-picked 38

In the 2nd rnd aside from maybe 5 players..none of them are currently in the league

nobody said every player in the draft is a winner. However the draft is still important its that simple

Phil has done a lot better so far this season. He had a rough beginning if you ask me, but he appears to be a true student of the game. I will reserve my judgement until the end of the season
Thank God Fisher is no longer our coach, now let's get Calderon out of here:)

I thought it was over Chris Smith.

What other choice is there?

Last offseason, someone said, several people said, the NBA Draft is a total crapshoot.

And I said back then, Ok, it is a crapshoot, but how else can you build a team in the modern NBA?

It's virtually impossible to build a team through free agency and trades alone. Occasionally, if you can get two Top 5 players in the same place, you can make a serious run, but how often does that happen?

Apparently NOT. We will not be able to keep our draft picks next year because of the huge mediocre FA signings.

I think by the end of the season, the Knicks will be deemed the drafts biggest winners. Zing is about 20 lbs and a years worth experience from being a 20 pt, 8 rb, 4 ast, and 2 blk type guy. Grant looks like he will at least be a serviceable pg with the potential to develop into a solid starter. Thus, we got two starters and only had to give up THJr. That is a great draft. I clearly underestimated Phil as a GM.
Trust the Process

What does this even mean?

Perhaps he thinks that the pick we gave up was actually top 5 or 10 protected (which it was not), and that we picked up enough FAs to finish outside of the protected zone?

Phil Jackson is the president of basketball operations. Steve mills is the so called Knicks Gm..

Phil changing the team culture and trying to bring back the winning tradition.. Steve Mills, the g.m. is garbage and relates to Dolan and do not know why he came back.. he knows nothing about basketball.

The Future. GO KNICKS!
