this group is actually tailor made to maximize what Melo brings which is bulk scoring. They put 3 blue collar guys around him and shooters. Sorry to say for those who regard MElo as a $25mm a year Al Harrington but this is a model that has yielded plenty of wins in the past. We know it doesn't win in the post season, but it certainly wins plenty of regular season games.
This has a similar look to the 54 win team

G Galloway
G Afflolo

Then you bring in KP as a scorer off the bench. Let the kid go off and try to stay out of foul trouble on defense. Galloway can run the PG at that point because its a lot of Melo/KP 2 man game in the pinch post now. So your guards are Galloway and Afflolo. Now you can go with Grant or Williams depending on matchups or needs.
That's not a great team, but if some things go right for the Knicks they can win 45 games. What needs to go right? We need 75 healthy games from Melo, Jose, Lopez and Afflolo. After that we need Grant and KP to play positive rolls. I can easily see Grant being the 30mpg guard off the bench as he can play 1,2 and even cover 3's when we go small. KP should be a scorer off the bench. Keep his defensive mistakes to a min, but get him scoring the ball off the bench. Keep him on the floor. Hopefully 20mpg for KP. They need Afflolo OR Williams to play their best ball. Not both per say, but one of these guys needs to come in and win that #2 scorer role like JR did 3 years ago.
If all those things happen the Knicks will certainly be a playoff team. Now Melo could have a nagging hammy for 2 months, Afflolo could be out of shape, Williams could be looking to get his and KP tears and ACL... I mean who knows. There is some upside for this group for sure. The pressure is on Melo indeed, but its a role he's succeeded in the past many many times. Who's the #2 scorer on this team?
