Man, this would be funny. This tells me they are worried about being out of the running on Robin Lopez. No room to absorb Lee with Lopez signed.

Lee acquitted himself in the playoffs. Even though Im not a fan, he handled the benching with class, and waited for his moment to deliver. As long as it's no more than a couple of years. Would prefer to bring him off the bench.

If the Knicks can get David Lee AND Robin Lopez, that's actually a solid starting five that MIGHT be able to make the playoffs.

Got to get picks, though, I would think...and maybe Looney, as I think Briggs mentioned at one point.

Lee would fit very well in the triangle offense.

Need a rim protector to help him defend.

Freaking Lakers are going to bring down the price! Either Lee and Looney or future pick, or Calderon for Lee and Livingston.

This is our best route at the moment.

If the Knicks could get RoLo, Lee, Looney, future pick(s), I'd do it. Some light salary may need to go to GS, maybe Calderon.

Come on:) thats not light. The incentive here is to take the 16mm off of the GS books. If we get Lopez thats a good deal. I think we may need to stretch Calderon to make it work but well worth it.

Right now we have 20-21 mm. If Lopez cost 9mm in year 1 we can get a deal done by waiving Calderon and gaining 4m. If Lopez cost 12mm we cant do it. We can use a TPE on Looney

I would splurge if I got Looney back. He's a player I really wanted in this lottery and hoped we were going to make another trade to grab him.. he fell to last of the first right?

I like Lee. He's a good player. Focus on the holes or focus on what he can do. He's certainly a + player. Hell, he's not much different from playing Monroe at center.

In our favor, the warriors said they would work with Lee to find a destination and he loved playing in NYC and still owns a place here

that is interesting.

I agree if we can get Looney this trade is an absolute no brainer. I'd even prefer it to signing ROLO. Looney and Lee would be a better haul. Sign Koufos with the remaining $6M if possible.

But I feel like the Warriors will look at Looney as Lee's replacement. We'll see.

This could be a good opportunity to salvage FA. Looney alone would take the sting out of missing on Monroe and all the others.

Can those "wonderful" trade exceptions we have be put to any use at the point where we are near or above the cap limit?

You have Lee for the "now," Lopez as a "bridge" between now and the future, and Looney and the pick(s) for the future.

I do recall reading that Looney may need some kind of medical procedure in the future, though- not sure if it was back or hip related- and that this might have caused him to drop in the draft.

I'd be happy to get David, give them a trade exemption and also receive a second rounder. Asking for anything more, and they could just go to the Lakers.

And while David may have enjoyed playing in NYC and being a Knick, its LA, and though they are running out of water, they are a better run franchise, and they have more talent than we do.

The trade exceptions have cap holds aka they are the same as cap room. We have to relinquish the trade exceptions to get cap room.

Nope--I dont need Lee unless I get a 2016#1 and Looney--anything less pass.

I think the Lakers under Jimmy Buss are just as bad or worse than the Knicks.

Notice how no one is signing there either.

I would take just Looney. Looney is a mid first round talent. Lee actually fills a huge need here. It's a very good trade for $15M in cap room.

It would be ironic as hell if the Knicks history winds up going down like this:

2010 - Knicks trade David Lee to create cap space to sign Amar'e Stoudemire

2015 - Knicks trade for David Lee with cap space created by the departure of Amar'e Stoudemire

I was one saying the Knicks should just sign DLee in 2010 instead of Amar'e. Obviously both players are flawed, but I think you can argue Lee had a lot more value over the past five years than Amar'e did.
