UNREAL! Suddenly Shandon's contract is not even looking as ludicrous anymore...and I figured it would take hell freezing over for me to say that!

Free agent forward Brian Cardinal agreed to a contract with the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday, his agent, Mark Bartelstein, told ESPN Insider Chad Ford.

The contract is for six years and worth roughly $39 million, according to Bartelstein. The Grizzlies used their full mid-level exception to sign Cardinal.

Cardinal had a breakout year for the Warriors last year, averaging 9.6 points and 4.2 rebounds per game while shooting a red-hot 44 percent from 3-point range. He's a tough-nosed, energetic player who should be perfect in Hubie Brown's system.

Several teams, most notably the Bulls, also were in the running for Cardinal.

"He's going to be a perfect fit in Memphis," Bartelstein told Insider. "I think Brian recognized that the Grizzlies were a team where he'd maximize his potential."

Breakout year at 9.6 ppg? Damn, I can put up numbers like that. I wonder what Shandon will get after his current contract expires.

why would the bulls have been looking at using the MLE on Brian Cardinal if they're not going to sign Crawford?

makes no sense.

Boy, GMs are really jumping the gun, aren't they? If someone has the slightest bit of positivity in their game, suddenly they are worthy of star money? Sheesh.

I guarantee Stromile will freaking demand 90 mm now. And he's one guy the Knicks could definitely use.

You don't look at a guy like Cardinal and look at his points or rebounds per game. Cause he does so much more than that on the court. He hussles, plays Defense,1 of better help defenders, gets to every loose ball.

Great signing for Memphis IMO. He fits there mold of unselfish players who work hard every day.

His signing isn't so rediculous considering the previous signings... Memphis really wanted this guy. He hustles, shoots threes, rebounds and plays D. And he's already used to playing 22 mpg.

hey, he's a good player that anybody would love on their team but this guy should be making $3 mil/year, not $6+.

btw, if it's possible via the cba, then i think this signing may actually be a golden state contract and that it may be a sign and trade with swift and cardinal going back to golden state for dampier (since they already used their mle on foyle and don't have space for cardinal). it's just a hunch tho.

Look for the Bulls to now offer Stephen Jackson the MLE. I'm suprised no one has even made an offer to him yet. A couple of articles have said that Isiah is interested in him but I don't think Isiah will give him the MLE before he makes an attempt after Dampier or Stromile Swift.
