Let me be honest- I wanted Porzingis, and might have taken him over OK4, but most likely I would have taken OK4, because I'm dying for a player with a post-up game, and it would transform our offense.

If Embiid was not injured, there is a good chance Hinkie would have taken Porzingis, because OK4 has a similar game to Embiid, and he probably would have done a trade down with Orlando, for all we know.

Almost impossible to believe what's on the video given the info Hinkie released. A true Twilight Zone moment for me. A 260 lb guy with a bad ankle riding on a gizmo while concentrating on a phone or whatever.

Wow

Facing potential ankle surgery, 76ers center Joel Embiid out riding a PhunkeeDuck

Philadelphia 76er Joel Embiid injured the navicular bone in his ankle. Of Embiid, CSN Philly adds:

Surgery has not been ruled out and “all options are on the table.” Earlier this week, Embiid went to New York to consult with a doctor at a hospital for special surgery. He’s also scheduled to visit a doctor named Bob Anderson in North Carolina. Anderson specializes in orthopedic surgery.

Embiid has been subjected to routine and regular CT scans and MRIs since the Sixers drafted him. They looked good, [GM Sam] Hinkie said, until the pre-summer league check-up suddenly looked “different.” That’s the word Hinkie used over and over again. That led to the reevaluation and the late-Saturday evening statement that freaked so many people out. After getting badgered by one reporter (take a guess which one), Hinkie said you can call it a setback if you'd like, but the way the doctors described it to him was that they expected the navicular bone to be “even more healed” than it is.

Maybe that's because the idiot has been out riding...a Phunkee Duck. The Perfect Mode of Transportation

Wonder if the Sixers have a public reaction to this?

This is an article about the general concern regarding his foot. It is current.

pretty funny... I would have been over the moon with an OK4/Grant draft. My god... but I think knowing the top 3 would be gone really forced the Knicks to do their homework and diligence as the 3 no-thought-needed pics would be gone. I think that's the part that excites me the most about PK. You know they vetted him bigtime. They couldn't afford to phuck this up. They had plenty of safe options... I have think this kid is pretty good. 7'1 (7'3 by NBA w/ shoes standards) and an offensive skill set that's a nice mix of skill and aggressive athletic plays. What comes out of this kid's mouth? "Im going to focus on defense as that is what will get me the most minutes"

Drago baby!

The 76ers were ordered to pay the New Orleans Pelicans $3 million by the NBA last season for not fully disclosing Jrue Holiday's injury history before he was traded two years ago, according to two sources.

The Sixers traded Holiday, an all-star point guard, to the Pelicans on the night of the 2013 NBA draft for the rights to Nerlens Noel, the sixth overall pick that year.

The sources said Holiday played with stress fractures in his lower right leg during his final season with the Sixers. However, the sources said, those injures weren't fully disclosed to the Pelicans.

Sixers general manager Sam Hinkie declined to comment, but a Sixers team source disputed the allegation.

This Hinkie is one to watch closely when you are dealing with him, but now you know he may be worse than just a tough negotiator.

He is an interesting guy. He does things like supporting and paying for Pierre Jackson's rehab despite his being cut by the Sixers. But he also manipulates the cap annually so that he doesn't have to pay his players for the team being so far under the cap. I think the fan base maybe tiring of the losing and acquiring assets approach. I think the Embiid injury threw him a curve ball. Drafting Okafor and trying to bring Saric over seems to indicate that he might be trying to start winning.

totally agree. Never pass a talent like OK4 because of need. The made the right draft choice 100%

OK4 needs to be a big boy now, collect his NBA millions, get ready to play manage his career positively. That image of him is incredible. Wow. He's disgusted.

They cut it short, though...were the other guys going to drop theirs too? Just wondering.

He is not happy, though.

Worked out for Minny and LA, and he is a Laker fan.

Lakers really like Russell, but from reading things, I think there is a belief that OK4 really, and I mean really, has some defensive red flags, and that is why they passed on him, unless they already have an agreement with a FA center.

Wow. The problem with Hinkie's grand vision is that it ignores the human element essential in building a team.

For all his problems, I do think Phil understands that part.

like phil but he still has a ways to go until we see if he is a good GM. So far in his tenure the grant trade is his best move as a GM. The porzingis pick might end up being terrific but thats still a unknown. Free agency will be interesting and we will see how he does

Yes well said; he does a great job with managing easily measurable assets but you wonder if 1) he can convert them into a team product and 2) effectively communicate his vision internally and to free agents.

You are right... the conventional GM does more than just accrue and manipulate assets and maximize profits by minimizing spending.

There's a reason why Porzingis would not work out for him, OK4 does not want to be there, free agents don't want to be there, and the league is looking into his salary practices.

For the sake of Sixers' fans and their "crappy city," I hope their fortunes change, as long as we are always once step better.
