What were our better options?

1- Winslow?

2- WCS?

3- Frank Kaminski

4- Mario Henzoja??

5- Mudiay

We are not going to be a 17 team win season and contenders over 1 season
We could rush back to become a playoff pretender AT BEST but is that what you really want?

Taking the player that was projected to have the HIGHEST CEILING LEFT and FIT THE SYSTEM, while it was projected to be the correct pick and so many complainers?
Phil Jackson tried to trade down but no one would bite with a good deal...

He also was willing to sign both Marc Gasol and LA, in which they were not willing to sign with us
So CA was unable to lure FA's over, so Phil Jackson did the correct move

At worse I see KP being a BIG AK47 with 3pt shooting and more versatile skills/size and a true OFF threat all over the floor, and at least good/mobile help defender till he fills out
We also got a 1st rounder for Tim Hardaway, THAT IS GREAT!

We still have cap space to sign to younger MAX contracts like

Greg Monroe

RFA
======
Reggie Jackson
Middleton
Butler

or go for some COST EFFICIENT PLAYERS like

Koufus
Brandon Wright

Aminu/Wesley Johnson

It is going to take some time regardless and I am happy that Phil Jackson is not going for short term success to becoming a play off pretender

Consider this; If Melo played the rest of the season, and JR and Shump stayed, we probably would have ended up with pick 19 anyway. There would have been NO trip to the 2nd round we would have gotten NOTHING for those 2 players and we would be sinking further into the abyss. Evenif Prozingis is a total bust, we are further along then we would have been by standing pat.

I have heard a couple of people that were not as high on Winslow as the fan base. Doug Gottlieb was one of them. Gottlieb called him a 6'4 power forward that bullied other kids. Gottlieb did say that he thinks Mudiay could win the roy this year because he will be on a bad team and put up big numbers.
I'm tired,I'm tired, I'm so tired right now......Kristaps Porzingis 1/3/18

Plenty of guys had high ceilings. It doesn't gave to be the best athlete. I'm going to continue to criticize this pick because I feel it was a reach.

If the guy was ranked 4/5 in almost all Mocks and Rankings - can you explain how it was a reach?

I understand either him or Mudiay were the projected pick but I guess I just don't go along with popular opinion. Call me crazy but I wouldn't have taken Porzingis in the top 10 unless it was for trade bait.

Winslow is not gonna be a franchise player

Mudiay, maybe

Kristaps has the best chance of them all to be a franchise player

I thought that the popular opinion was that KP had the most upside but that there was a fear he might not ever reach his full potential. It's not a case of a guy not being talented enough. It's just the fear that he won't realize the hopes scouts have for his talent. Fans like me who wanted WCS were not anti KP as much as feeling more SAFE with what they know about the US players in that range. We all saw the raw talent KP has.

Here's the thing. Phil and all of his scouts who have decades of experience in evaluating young prospects made the decision that KP was the player with the most upside and chance to become a franchise player. I have to support their decision since I never went to Europe to watch him play and didn't see his Knicks workout nor any of the other top players Knicks workout. The Knicks saw all of them and could directly compare what the saw. Gotta respect that since we don't know what the Knicks know.
