Sixers fall to Raptors

Last month, they were back-to-back picks in the NBA draft. Yesterday, they were rivals on the court.

The Toronto Raptors, featuring No. 8 draft pick Rafael Araujo, defeated the 76ers, featuring No. 9 pick Andre Iguodala, 88-80, in a Minnesota Timberwolves Summer League game at the Target Center.

Araujo, a 6-11 center from Brigham Young, had 10 points and 18 rebounds. Iguodala, a 6-6 forward from Arizona, had 12 points in 40 minutes.

Toronto (2-1) was led by Matt Bonner's 20 points.

The Sixers (1-2), led by John Salmons' 24 points, play the Charlotte Bobcats today at noon. The Bobcats' Emeka Okafor, the second pick in the draft, will not play because he is training for the U.S. Olympic team.

the raptors did the right thing picking arajuo. they needed size and skill upfront and they got it. Thats 7-0 235 chris bosh at PF with 6-11 280 pound arajuo at C---what they needed to spend their money on IMHO was more size--i wouldve dipped in and signed Chris Mihm for 4 years 16mm instead of Rafer[i doubt that boston would now match] and spent the other money on a Keyon Dooling.

BRIGGS you do realize the Rapotrs have no PG? Not even a backup if they don't get Rafer? Dooling is pathetic. You need at least an excuse for a PG ala Ward to get by, and they don't have that. Now at least they got Rafer.
A glimmer of hope maybe?!?

that team is a recipe for disaster. skip will dish the ball but he's a backup AT BEST. araujo and bosh are nice young pieces but with rose and carter constantly fighting for the ball, and that's exactly what they'll do, the offensive devlopment of bosh and araujo will suffer. rose needs to go b/c he is clearly the problem and vince needs to keep his mouth shut and stay healthy. signing skip for that much money was a bad move in my opinion. they would be better off signing a stopgap like charlie ward and try to get a young PG in the draft next season or trade for one (like a frank williams) or even throwing the MLE at troy hudson.

Araujo also had a whopping 8 fouls in the first SL game. He's gotta get that under control (once you get 6 fouls in SL, after that each foul is a technical).

They will have a good frontline though, Vince Carter, Chris Bosh, and Araujo.

i wouldnt have spent that money on rafer. I would keep jalen rose at the point and spend light to find a young athletic back up. Chris Mihm could be had right now--with the Raptors lack of depth inside, Id rather spend 16-20mm on Mihm and 4-6 on Dooling. Keyon is capable of giving a solid 15-18 minutes but the quality size upfront[who is still young]is more important.

Heck if Im the Knicks, I would go after Mihm with something like 3-4 years 15 mm or so. We dont have any 7 footers who can play if we get rid of deke. Hes better than Doleac and the pickings are small.

who cares, there is a learning process. picking up 8 fouls in one game and 18 rebounds in another shows me heart and desire. It's just a process to learn how to avoid fouling, but getting 18 rebounds at his size in 29 minutes against other pro caliber players is impressive.

Another scary site was watching Dwight Howard yesterday, he was a man among boys and he's only 18. were lucky boozer is moving out because i see a good deal of young BIG athletic players moving into the east.

i never make up anything. I have NBA TV which covers the SL and they said he grew an inch and now weighs 235 at 7-0. This was a skinny kid, of course hes going to put on soem weight at 18 years old and putting on an inch at 18-19 is common.

okay; i'm curious to see what he looks like. if he is 7' 235, that's fantastic news for the raptors.
