I'll try to articulate my disappointment with the knicks drafting porzingus. It's not that I think he's a good or bad player (I have no idea ). I just need to understand what the knicks are trying to do. They got Melo for 5 yrs and he needs help. Yet this kid won't be ready to help soon. Sounds like they're building for the future..fine. but then why are they signing a 35 yr old David west??

Sounds like phil knew they needed to tear everything down and rebuild. Cool that makes sense but yet they invested in an aging franchise player who makes a lot of money.

I'm more confused than disappointed. At #4 you needed to get a young player who could contribute now. Not a gamble pick. I'd be more ok with this pick if we didn't invest in Melo (with the obvious pressure to win now). You tell me were rebuilding with a youth movement then I'm all in

I don't like this in between feeling

Knicks should be improved: win about 40 games and maybe sneak into the playoffs. Melo, Rose and even Noah will have some nice moments however this team should be about PORZINGUS. the sooner they make him the primary player, the better

You make fair point. I would have taken mudiay winslow or even stein. However i loved the grant trade. The grant trade was phils first good move

No disagreement about the real issue- to tear down or not to tear down.

I've been critical about the signing of Anthony at the amount we gave him, even though he might be a "bargain" in a few years as the cap increases.

A funny things is that Phil talked about Anthony giving the Knicks "wiggle" room in the contract, and though Anthony did not really give it too him, Phil still signed him.

Was it Jackson's call, or was he pressured from above?

In his press conference a week or so ago, Phil made a comment about not drafting a guy more interested in shoe contracts and branding, and I think this was a shot at Anthony, and maybe even an indication that he had no intention of taking Anthony's guy- Winslow, who a few days later talked about NYC being a perfect place for marketing his brand.

Really comes down to what you think the term "best player available" means. If you add the "contribute now" tag, aren't you screwing with the very meaning of BPA?

Porzingis is a more experienced player than Mudiay or Winslow, hands down, and has played in more sophisticated offensive schemes. One played 12 games in a highlight reel league, and the other is one of the youngest players in the draft with some flaws in his offensive game that many teams must have seen or he would not have gone at 10. Kristap and Hezonja are the only top players in the draft to have played in a grown man's league- he might be physically behind Winslow and Mudiay, but who is to say that the size of his body and the size of his heart don't accelerate his NBA career.

Getting Grant- a more mature version of Mudiay with less upside- gives you an NBA ready rookie, and gets rid of THJ, who clearly did not fit into Jackson's offensive concept.

I'm biased, since I was one of Porzingis' biggest and most open supporters, but we had a good draft, yesterday.

Again I can't comment much on porzingus....I just need to know the direction of the team. This feels like phil wanted a rebuilding effort the whole time but Dolan forced him to resign melo

who cares about melo.

the cap is going up and we have space.

kristaps is the new face of the franchise and hes gonna be great.

melo is the highest paid player and that's about it. we'll probly trade him in a year or so.

melo lost a lot of power last night.

this is kristaps franchise.

You shouldn't be disappointed with kris he is just a kid and averaged more ppg then Karl Anthony towns in a league where 99 percent of those teams would crush duke and Kentucky on a nightly basis... This kid will be a major factor this season regardless of its coming off the bench or starting

Phil talks about him like offensively he will make an immediate impact and will eventually round out his game. I personally think he's going to be a low efficient, high turnover player that doesn't defend or rebound but he has potential to be a volume scorer, if you value that, which I don't. My cousin said this and I tend to agree. Phil went for the high ceiling player and worst case scenario, he flops and Phil just retires and "even P-Jax couldn't fix this franchise"... If he pans out he looks like a genius.

That doesn't sound too appealing. But I'm looking forward to seeing Zinger on offense and I think he will be a nice camby type of shot blocker. Those blocks that come out of no where, usually from the blind side. He will get abused in the post, but thats the only way he understands what he needs to improve on. His first step and length will be used to get to the rim. He's so skinny, any slight push will look like a flop / foul. I think he'll be fine.

Remember, the key to limiting your bust potential is to have a defined skill set. His skill right now is the outside shot / scoring.....He's lower than Stein, as far as defense, but he will impact the defensive end. Can't wait to see who we add in free agency and what he looks like in summer league play.

Some posters got on me when I said that our draft pick would be the future of the team and that after the draft this would no longer be about Melo. Yes he's here and will be the core of the current roster but everything isn't resting on Melo for our future. It's now about our highest 1st rd pick since Ewing. It's not about our athletic and skilled 7'3" Center. How can it not be about that just as it's the case in LA that it's now about Russell and not Kobe. This is the natural order of things.

Melo will help the team compete over the next 4 years as our young players develop. Phil isn't done adding vets for the present either. This team will be built for the present and the future just as Phil has stated he would do.

But no one can really say that Porzingis can help now. Like everybody else..I don't know...but looking at his skillset he is a perfect triangle player. Him working in the elbows in those highlight films in YouTube are very telling. If we sign Monroe we can potentially have our big 3 like the Celtics of the 80s. Grant is a great add. Hopefully shved and ledo sticks. We are looking good.

What part of Phil saying from the beginning that the team will be built in free agency and not the draft did you not understand??

I think people think the plan is to build the team in just this offseason when that's just not gonna happen. This offseason is just the start of rebuilding the team and it will come together in the following offseason and Porzingis will be contributing in two years as well. L.Brown just said that he would play him right away and I feel the same way. I think he can give us 20 good minutes next year and then be much more ready the following year. Don't listen to these idiots that think it's gonna take 3/4 years for him to be ready cause that's ridiculous.

Kris doesn't have to carry the team. That's the beauty of having Melo. The young players can come along at their own pace. Melo and the vets can carry the load and lead the team. It's not about one season or even 2. Phil said he was building for sustained success. He wanted a future for the team.

I guess this is the plan for the near future. Win 40 games a yr with Melo while the young guys marinate them get rid of him when the kids are ready. Is this exciting?

The more I think of it....the main reason I'm concerned about this pick is cuz we hv melo. I really wish we didn't resign him. I don't think phil truly wanted him. I'd be all on board with a rebuilding effort with no pressure to win now

We've been doing both since Phil cleaned house. He's been bringing in younger players and pointing towards Free Agency for some vets. It's pretty clear what he's doing. Did guys want an old team with no future? I don't understand the confusion. The Wiz had a mostly young team with an old vet in Pierce. It just helped things along.
