Who is a great fit to push for?

Probably Monroe and Affalo or Mathews

definitely Monroe. He's young player so he can be part of the post Melo years and he fits with Zinger if Zinger pans out..... It will likely be a crappy front court next year but it can develop.

I rather they spend that cap space on younger guys than invest it in Afflalo or Matthews, or Carroll. Unfortunately there isn't a lot of RFA who won't be matched this year.

The algorithm gives and the algorithm takes away

I like DeMarre Carroll. I'm curious about Greg Monroe.

I'd also be curious about Monta Ellis and David West, though I think we could only sign 2 of that group of 4.

I don't think we are getting guys like LMA and Love here.

I'd like to get some younger, cheaper pieces, too, but I think those are harder to get in FA now with how RFA works.

Monroe, Carroll and a SG is my guess.

Danny Green has a career 42% 3 pt shooting average - he's shot over 40% in each of the last 4 years. He's also a very good defender and a decent passer. He's not a guy who'll carry the offensive load, but we already have that guy. We need someone to stretch the field and play good d at the 2. Green could be that guy and he's very available.

I would love NY to be bold and reach out for Butler. Poison pill a contract so that Chicago cant match. I don't know if its possible but its my hope for this team.

A future backcourt of Grant and Butler would be a real strong foundation along with KP.

Bulls will match any offer plus you can't "poison pill" his contract. What you can do is "Parsons" a deal but even that won't do it

Bulls drafted Portis. But have Gibson Gasol Militic(name?) Noah. Can we buy low on Noah?

Danny Green/Greg Monroe/Aminu... hopefully phil can split 27 mill between the 3....

Danny green is the perfect guard to play next to melo... can defend lebron, moves without the ball and shoots the 3 at a high clip... would space out the court so much...

Under the assumption that we resign Cole(back up/reserve C) Lou Amundson( reserve pf)and Shved(starting) and Ledo (reserve 2) then we need

So we need a
Starting C
Back up PF
Back up SF

Now since our front court will conisist of Melo and Porzingis, we could definitely use some rim protection so i hope we get Asik,Lopez or Branden Wright. Please no Monroe unless you want the worst defensive team in the NBA.

For back PF I think we also need a defender here to compensate for Porzingis so I would hope we get Someone like Bass, Wright, and Tomas Robinson.

For our Back up SF I would really like someone like Dunleavey, someone who could impact on both ends of the floor

Then we look like this:
1st string

Grant
Shved
Melo
KP
Asik(8mm/2years)

2nd string
Caledron
Thanasis
Dunleavy(8mm/3 years)
Bass(7mm/3 years)
Hermonguez

3rd string
Galloway
Ledo
Early
Amundson/Christian Wood
Cole

This isn't perfect, but it is a more than practical and balanced team that we can have moving forward.I would be open to cutting Calderon and signing Jeremy Lin or if we are really lucky Cory Joseph.

I don't know why a lotof you are freaking out like "OH NO WE DRAFT ZINGER WHO IS GOING TO JOIN US NOW" we don't need big name players for our team to be big in the eastern conference. Get a team like this together and we are looking at 30-50 wins.

The Future is Bright!

I am coming around on KP, but I don't think we should assume he's starting. I think he will be around 20-24mpg in year one. That even might be ambitious.

And I'm not convinced they're bringing back Shved. I think the next few weeks will determine whether or not they actually extend a qualifying offer to him.

I think we are set at PG between Grant and Calderon and Galloway. Galloway can play some SG, but I agree it'd be nice to get a guy like Danny Green or DeMarre Carroll who is better at spacing the floor.

I think we need a starting PF and starting C. I'm assuming Monroe is coming. I really don't think David West is coming to the Knicks. Word is he wants to chase a ring. I think there will be better options for him to do that. If he did want to come for say $12M and Monroe came for $15M we could role out:

Jerian Grant / Calderon
Galloway / Thanasis or Ledo
Melo / Early
David West / Porzingis
Greg Monroe / Jason Smith / Cole Aldrich

Still think we'd need more outside shooting, but it's a start and it helps that Porzingis has true 3pt range, though again, I don't think we can count on him for more than 20 minutes a night early on.

I think you have to try. Immediately gives the team credibility and it builds for the future too.

Push for Aldridge and West, and likely settle for Monroe and West, which is still ok.

This is exactly what i see happening, to a tee. Phil made it clear he is all about the frontcourt right now. I think he will be content with Calderon, Grant, and Galloway for now, maybe adding another minimum guy.

I love you're thinking with the lineup as it relates to King. There is almost no way the Knicks will start him. They know it is a high risk pick and will not put him in a pressure situation. Also, he can't give more than 15-20 minutes, so they would be better suited to bring him off the bench. Starting him out the gate is a recipe for failure and extreme backlash.

I agree, but would like to see us add a guy who can play the 2/3 like Green or Carroll to give us some lineup flexibility in situations where we need Melo to play the 4.

I have a feeling that Grant will be the starter by the end of the year. He's 22. You think he's a risk? I think he might be the second best player on our roster right now (pre-free agency), behind Melo.

As the 19th pick, he is really not a risk at all. We got him for THJ, which was pretty impressive. He has range and will be a better defender than THJ. I see him more as an off the ball player in the NBA, but he should fit that role nicely. He was able to create his own shot in college, he can certainly work on that and do it in the NBA, but I have no expectation for this out the gate. I didn't see enough explosiveness off the dribble to believe he can do that immediately in the NBA. That said, his shooting and defense should making him an instant upgrade over anything we had.
