Sources: Kings talking to Lakers about DeMarcus Cousins trade, fielding offers from other teams

The Los Angeles Lakers and Sacramento Kings exchanged possible frameworks of a trade centered on All-Star DeMarcus Cousins on Wednesday and discussions could intensify on Thursday, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

The Kings started to engage with teams and explore possible trade scenarios beyond the Lakers on Wednesday, league sources said. Sacramento management has publicly said it won't trade Cousins, but that stance has increasingly softened and the franchise is proceeding further on moving him, league sources said.

After Sacramento Kings coach George Karl pushed for Kings management to trade Cousins this spring, Cousins is unenthusiastic about returning to play for Karl and would be eager for a deal to the Lakers, league sources said.
Opposing teams are trying to deciper whether the Kings are making a sincere effort to accomodate Cousins with a trade – or simply trying to placate him that they tried and were unable to find a suitable deal.

Kings vice president of basketball operations Vlade Divac has pursued a possible deal that would include a bevvy of assets, including the Lakers' No. 2 pick in Thursday's NBA draft, rookies Julius Randle and Jordan Clarkson and other draft assets, league sources told Yahoo Sports. Sacramento also would want to unload the remainder of forward Carl Landry's two years, $13.5 million contract, league sources said.

Minimally, the Lakers have no intention of including Randle in a deal for Cousins, league sources told Yahoo Sports. Randle, a power forward, was the seventh overall pick in the 2014 NBA draft and missed most of his rookie season after leg surgery. The Lakers are reluctant to part with Clarkson too, sources said.

The Lakers are eager to make a deal for Cousins before Thursday night's draft, but if no agreement is in place, Los Angeles will continue to decide between Duke center Jahlil Okafor and Ohio State guard D'Angelo Russell, sources said.

Sacramento owner Vivek Ranadive has been unwilling to discuss a deal to send Cousins to Denver, where Sacramento's former coach, Michael Malone, and former general manager, Pete D'Alessandro, have been recently hired, sources said. Denver has had interest in a three-way deal that would land Cousins with the Lakers and possibly deliver the Kings several players – including point guard Ty Lawson – who Karl has expressed a desire to be reunited with in Sacramento, sources said.

Not much of a trade if once side won't give up the only 2 players being asked for. Maybe they are trying to placate him...

not sure I would want Cousins, anyway.

How the Lakers continue to do this is amazing. I am sending Cousins to the East of I trade him despite a loss of assets

Jerry West practically gave them Gasol for nothing..Now Divac is handing them Cousins and Phil probably won't even try..

If Phil was smart he would start calling the Jazz about a pkg around Favors and the 12 pick instead of Cousins.

There are two things I will be praying for. Either this deal goes down and at least okafor falls to us. Or the Sixers take Prizingis and Russell falls. As a Knick fan I know I must prepare for the worst since that is what usually happens but its about time we get a break for a change

How is it "handing" them Cousins? They would be trading the 2nd overall pick, Randle, clarkson, along with probably their other first rounder. Plus they want LA to take a bad contract. That is a lot to give up. If we were offered that for melo then Phil would be applauded by every Knick fan

I think so. Especially given Cousins behavior issues. If im Sacramento and I can get this deal I would be thrilled.

The Malone firing was just a soft cover for his discontentment with the situation. He's in a long term team friendly deal with the cap rising. He wants to move to a bigger market and get some of that big time endorsement money that his agent and agency have promised him.

Same sad story over and over. The league is predominantly stocked with young US born and raised African American players. The majority of them seem to be completely dissatisfied with the idea of being the best basketball player they can be. They all must want to be the next Common/Jamie Foxx/Jay Z/Ice Cube and be a rapper/singer/dancer/actor/clothing line mogul/media mogul/pastry chef/champion bass fisherman/tv personality/Oscar winner/Grammy winner/have their own cologne/have their kids be the next Jayden and Willow Smith/reality stars and on and on and on.

It's like they have no sense of reality.

Martin Scorsese isn't sitting in a room with Chris Nolan and James Cameron going - "Hey yeah, what the **** have I been thinking? I need a near 7 foot black guy who isn't a good enough actor to act like he cares about his fans and his franchise and basketball to play this super important Oscar winning role here!"

I remember seeing a bizarre interview with Chris Webber, and how he said he had to just stop himself from pursuing all these acting and non basketball opportunities like he was some mix of DeNiro and Warren Buffett combined. Never mind he could barely speak functionally in front of a camera and a mic in his face and that he's universally been panned as a lousy person off the court.

I don't blame the Spurs, who openly state they rather get international players ( i.e. code for I don't want a ghetto hood rat wannabe rapper who cares about getting his next shoe deal)

The Lakers aren't some genius franchise. They just take advantage of the reality that a lot of these players believe playing for the Lakers means you can turn from LL Cool J to James Todd Smith.

If the Kings really wanted to troll Cousins, they should trade him to Toronto. ( Actually a nice place to live, not that Cousins would appreciate that. He'd just be pissed because he probably believes the Lakers are his best chance to get into an Entourage sequel movie)

DeMarcus Cousins starring in SHAZAMM PART II! What a mother ****ing jackoff.

You cannot fight culture.
This what American public wants from any celebs including bbal players.
So what crowd wants it is usually gets.

Marc Gasol and draft picks... I would say they did OK. I do agree it seemed like a scam at first but after time its pretty even. Lakers look better as they won a chip w/ Pau but that trade looks pretty good for Memphis these days
