The Suns actually traded Marbury for Nash. Who would you rather have? I believe they gave him about 11 mil per. Thats only 2 or 3 mil less than Starbury. I think we made out better.

Nash is a nice player but Marbury is superior in every aspect of the game

man, you shouldnt even be asking this question, there is no doubt in any one's mind that marbury is better. only thing nash has is ugly hair.

Marbury's contract escalates big time on the back end

and they also traded Penny Hardaway-

but- it was a down grade in terms of talent

don't knock Nash though, he is a good player

nash has won more playoff series and i think he makes his team better more than marbury does. that being said, nash accomplished what he did with a much better nucleus than marbury ever had, even though marbury-joe johnson-marion-stoudemire is a core that shouldve won a lot more games than it did

There were other issues besides these two players.

They lopped off a lot of cap room, and picked up Eisley!

The eyes man is the clinch! ANd the potential in Lampe which is still years away. Knicks got home spun hero, PHX got what they wanted with the 16 pick to utah for assets, and the formentioned.

A win-win for all. If you think we got over on this one, take your enjoyment.

Marbury. He's younger, quicker, more athletic, and has a better handle. Nash is merely a better open shooter.

no they did not. Seeing that trade as a simple marbury for nash swap is narrowing the whole story.

I'm resurrecting this thread for all the people who argue that because D'Antoni had two-time MVP Nash running his show, he won't be successful without him.

Well, take a look at the perception of Nash v. Marbury at the time Phoenix signed Nash. Doesn't look like most people saw Nash as a potential two-time MVP.

Can we give D'Antoni some credit for maximizing talent?

It's hilarious today, but notice how, at the time, nobody argued.

If there is any reason to be open minded in considering D'Antoni -- it should be because we don't know if the "D'Antoni Effect" can improve some of our guys and alter perceptions around here and around the league.

I admit I liked Marbury back then too but I never thought he was better than Nash. The main reason I liked Marbury was because we had to see so many old, slow fools under Layden and this guy was a change of pace and an all-star. Too bad his brain is the size of a peanut and his attitude is terrible. Then of course you have Isiah Thomas building the team but that's another story.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

I remember thinking Marbury was a better player, but Nash was a better team player. Good find Evil. Steve Nash went from being a possible piece in a trade for Shaq, a player some people thought wasnt worth what they eventually gave to Erick Dampier, and not a highly respected player, to league MVP.

Im getting more excited about D'Antoni everyday.

LOL... funny to hear some of the opinions about Marbury & Nash back then... almost made me think this was an April Fool's Day thread.

I'd agree 100%- when we got Marbury, he was the first PG we'd had as long as I've been a fan (mid 80's) who could get in the lane and hit a lay up.

If Isiah had only stopped with Marbury, things might have actually gotten better if we had made smart drafts-

And on a talent level - Marbury at the time was better- but his brain, 'size of a peanut' and 'bad attitude' became painfully dominant over the last few years...

Don't worry, Bonn. You were not alone. However, you gotta check the other Nash thread I resurrected -- you might cringe when you read that one.
