some interesting (yet obvious) info from some insiders i know in the NBA (former players, family of players, agents, reporters). id thought id share...

1. free agents wont take playing for the knicks seriously unless phil coaches
2. other coaches and teams HATE phil! like ABHOR the dude. they want to stick it to him by not making deals with him
3. players LOVE derek fisher but they dont want to play for coach fisher
4. knicks are pretty much a lock to get monroe - its an agent thing.
5. speaking of agents, they and shoe companies pretty much dictate player movement
6. no one...i mean NO ONE knows who the knicks will draft.
7. toby wants out of orlando but not up to him
8. melo has big big plans - for marketing his brand
9. Kevin Love's gf lives in NYC - dont try to read any signs though
10. dont be surprise if they over pay - overrated and washed up vets on one yr deals.

again, pretty much all obvious stuff that we all knew. i guess the only thing i learned was i never realized how much other teams HATE phil. they think he's a ****y bastard and they want pay back by basically blacklisting him and the knicks. With that said, ny is always a candidate because agents LOVE the money making opportunities in manhattan. the knicks are still considered a laughing stock. phil was supposed to give them some credibility but the losing record didnt help at all.

thats all i got for now; hope that helps

Knicks should be improved: win about 40 games and maybe sneak into the playoffs. Melo, Rose and even Noah will have some nice moments however this team should be about PORZINGUS. the sooner they make him the primary player, the better

Prior to Phil coming back to the Knicks I thought he was a smug @ss. Now I like him but I totally see why other teams feel that way.

There is a buddy of mine that works for the Knicks...I won't say doing what but he is a member on this forum (he lurks and as far as I know has never posts anything).

Anyway..once in a while he has a good laugh at the speculation and overreaction people have here. With that being said, going off prior convos I have had with him I can say with full confidence that #1, 2, 3 & 4 are all inaccurate. Regardless of what fans want to think majority of players will go where the money is at. point blank.

Monroe is ONE the players the Knicks will pursue this off season but he is not at the TOP, believe it or not. It all depends on what happens on draft night. The Knicks are going for BEST PLAYER AVAILABLE and are going to go after FA agents that fit their system but are content on holding off for the 2016 FA class.

Only a handful actually know who the Knicks are going to go after during FA and the draft. Any "insider" reports saying otherwise is false.

Phil fits better as a coach he is obviously one of the best ever. As a GM he doesnt have that same skill at least yet, he is very inexperienced. To be honest his best move has probably been the prigioni trade lol. Im not saying he wont get better but i understand why some question his GM abilities and want him to coach instead

Wow great info. Two insiders now. The last guy that I remember breaking trades etc. was a guy who went by HellsKitchen. He broke the first Ewing deal that fell through on realgm. He had all the details and called his shot a day before everything happened. He broke a couple of smaller things but then the buddy that he had that worked for the Knicks got another job or something. He posted here for awhile.

Oh man...battling insiders- good stuff.

Most interesting thing from Swishfm3:

The Knicks are going for BEST PLAYER AVAILABLE and are going to go after FA agents that fit their system but are content on holding off for the 2016 FA class.

Only a handful actually know who the Knicks are going to go after during FA and the draft. Any "insider" reports saying otherwise is false.

From Callmened:

5. speaking of agents, they and shoe companies pretty much dictate player movement
6. no one...i mean NO ONE knows who the knicks will draft.

If you guys have any real info, we can conclude that all the stuff coming out about who we are interested in is fishy.

One of the most interesting things, if true, is about being patient for 2016 if the right guys are not there this year. That would lead you to believe we will be seeing a number of 1 year contracts this year, and this is exactly what Callmened says. Players might also like this because the new cap will skyrocket in two years.

Callmened forgot to mention that shoe contracts, besides influencing player movement, also lead injured players to continue playing even when they should sit down and allow a complete franchise tank for the good of all.

In regards to waiting for 2016 it could mean the Knicks will take a salary dump for a pick.

Good observation...pissed off I didn't figure it out.

Might also mean, though, that we get something for next year, and not this year...mo?

Yup, unless there was a particular player Phil really liked in this year's draft. Makes some sense since we have nothing for next year, but...

...He had a bunch of guys in to look at, who knows what kind of value he sees in this draft- not sure he's ever commented on whether he feels it is a deep one.

Interesting. I have some inside sources in the NFL. I believe that nobody knows what Phil is going to do. Even Mills talks about how cryptic he is with him lol

This is awesome. TJ you have to share some stuff this august. Really excited that guys are sharing their connections. I have one connection. A friend of mine is a life long friend of Jason Kidd's. It was nice when he was on the KNicks. Not sure if he gets insider bucks stuff but if I hear it I will share it if I can.

None of this is actually believable, except the money part. the majority of the league is subpar so I can see those being a money grab, and those should be avoided. Free agency has little to do with the draft, the team needs depth regardless of who they draft. Skills that fit could very well be two players who are completely interchangeable with positions on the court.

teams deal to make their teams better. Stick it to phil? Half the GM's were not around long enough hate phil!
Why would players hate playing for Fish?
Gotta name sources. this "Insider" stuff makes for nothing. Sorry, don't respect either of the "insider stuff"

A team will deal with knicks if it helps them. Likewise we would do the same.

So free agents won't even take the Knicks seriously unless Phil is coaching and Monroe is a lock to sign with the Knicks.

Ok!

Don't necessarily agree with this.

If you feel that you picked up a franchise player at a high lottery position who happens to play position X, I doubt that you would then go hard for a top level 29 year old player who plays position X, especially if you feel that you are more than one player away from a playoff run.

Why be redundant in your free agency if your team is rebuilding? I can see situations where you sign a vet who can still play, but also help the growth of a young player. If we got Russell, and there was a Jason Kidd type guard, past his prime, but still pretty good, I could see signing him because Russell could learn from him, and Russell is also capable of being a SG.

On the other hand, if we were to get OK4, I can't see us then trying to sign Monroe to a 4 year deal for big money. Would make no sense at all, IMO.

The position you are drafting from and the player you pick, has to have a certain degree of influence on your eventual free agency decisions, or otherwise you could retard the development of a player.
