You beat me...just about to post something on it. Pretty interesting if true. Also make you believe that Jackson might be a bit more crafty than we give him credit for.

Berman continues to get the numbers wrong. McAdoo was not taller than 6'10" and Porzingis, who he listed at 195 lbs last week is 230lbs, not 220. He also, like some on UK, seems to be oblivious to the fact that Hinkie has done two years of scouting on him.

I still tend to think that Philly will take Russell at 3 if he is there, though. In the right situation he will be a franchise turnaround star.

Everything will depend on what LA does anyway, and there was even the rumor that Minny is trying to get Russell in for a workout.

Seems that his two choices are LA and NY- he's already thinking of the markets. Totally amazing if we get him.

Everything in this draft seems fluid at this point.

The Berman article reporting it had a bunch interesting stuff- some worthy of its own headline- sounds like someone dumped a bunch of info on him:

Knicks hold stealth workout for D’Angelo Russell

Before D’Angelo Russell canceled a meeting with the Sixers last weekend, raising eyebrows, the Ohio State guard quietly worked out for the Knicks on June 11 in Westchester, The Post has learned.

Russell, after the Knicks meeting, didn’t show up for the Sixers workout reportedly because he got sick. But he was back East Wednesday to work out for the forever-rebuilding Philly franchise, which may hold the key to Phil Jackson’s draft fortunes.

If Karl-Anthony Towns, Jahlil Okafor and Russell are off the board at No. 4 in the June 25 NBA Draft, the Knicks may try harder to trade down and accumulate an extra asset. They have three trade exceptions to use to engineer a trade down to the No. 7-to-14 range and still land a much-coveted big man such as Willie Cauley-Stein or Frank Kaminsky, who will work out for the team Thursday.

The Post reported last week the Sixers have been set on Russell at No. 3 for a while. Sixers head coach Brett Brown is a Rick Pitino disciple, and the Louisville coach is enamored with the crafty Russell, who grew up in Louisville.

However, an enormous publicity campaign has been waged in the past five days by agent Andy Miller for Spanish league 7-footer Kristaps Porzingis, who had a stirring open workout in Las Vegas on Friday.
Prominent draft site Draftexpress.com has penciled in Porzingis to the Sixers at No. 3. With the news injured center Joel Embid may not be ready for the start of next season, the Sixers may prefer another big man and eschew the point-guard position.

That means Russell would fall to the Knicks.

However, a league source insists the Sixers taking Porzingis over Russell is a reach and they are after the best available player regardless of position.

“If you’re basing taking him because of last week’s workout, you should be fired,’’ the league source said.

Porzingis is a polarizing player because he put up minimal statistics for Seville, is just 19 years old and his body is not NBA ready. He’s listed at 220 pounds, and some feel he’s two seasons away from contributing.

However, Tim Shea, the former Knicks scout who now tutors coaches in Spain, says Porzingis can become a player similar to Bob McAdoo, the original sweet-shooting 7-footer, who played for several teams, including the Knicks and Nets.

“He plays within himself, plays for the team and has gotten better every year since I’ve seen him,’’ Shea told The Post. “He loves to play, loves the game, puts the work in and is well-liked by teammates because he puts team first and has a good character. I wouldn’t be obsessed with his numbers over here.’’

Jackson, coach Derek Fisher and personnel director Mark Warkentien attended the Porzingis workout. Most of the lottery teams interviewed Porzingis afterward, including the Knicks.

Even thoughCarmelo Anthony is said to be intrigued by Porzingis, players such as Russell, Justise Winslow, Cauley-Stein and Emmanuel Mudiay would give the Knicks a bigger boost the next two seasons.

After Russell’s workout for the Lakers 10 days ago, he told reporters he could be the next Stephen Curry, the reigning MVP and NBA champion.

“I just try to really model my game after Steph Curry,’’ Russell said. “He didn’t come into the league playing the way he’s playing now. It took some time. The player that he’s developed to be — I see a great resemblance. His ball-handling is off the charts. His shot selection I can say is kind of similar to mine. But like I said, his work ethic to get him where he’s at I would say is similar to mine also.’’

Despite speculation Russell is trying to avoid the Sixers, he realizes he will be drafted by a losing team regardless. The Knicks were 17-65 last season.

“Most of these teams are in the same situation to pick the top guys because they didn’t win,’’ Russell said. “So I definitely know they want a guy to come in and help them win games. That’s my main focus. If that’s going to the No. 1 pick or third, fourth, fifth — whatever pick it is — it’s going to a team to help them win.’’

I like the young guys Phil has brought in an looked at. Some guys have been fundamental system types like Lance and Weir, Ledo is a wildcard upside type, Admundson just blue collar, Galloway a guy who was overlooked, Thanasis an athletic freak, Early an older CBB guy with a rounded skill set... see a pattern? I dont really, and I think thats a good thing. I dont get the feeling Phil is locked into a "type" of prospect. Different guys bring different things and you need several flavors to make something really good.

Im warming more and more to us making a good pick at 4.

I think of this group: Porzingis, Mario, Winslow, WCS, Mudiay... if we can get one of the two top guys in that group we will have a blue chip franchise guy. Hopefully the workouts and scouting is revealing. There is great talent there. Just need to make good

Even though I think M.Henzonja will be a steal in this draft I don't see Phil taking him at 4 over guys like WCS, Porzingis, Mudiay and Winslow but I wouldn't be mad if he did. I really think Phil will end up trading down and getting a veteran and draft pick/picks in return which I'm good with as long as OK4 and Russell are off the board and depending on how much he gets back in a trade I might be alright with him trading the pick even if OK4 and Russell are still on the board. The only player that I'm definitely not trading the pick for is Towns who as we know won't be there.

Despite all the noise, I think the two bigs Townes and Okafor will go off the board first. Philly holds the key and some of that will depend on the true medical condition of Embid. Knicks should have opportunities to select among Russell, Porzingis, Mudiay - or trade down to Winslow, Stein, Kaminsky. I think Phil is his own man and likes to keep everyone guessing. I also think they're evaluating all types of talent with an eye on getting a late 1st rounder or one or two 2nd round picks - like last year. You can't go wrong stocking up on athletic quickness and talent but you must have the patience and smarts to "coach them up".

TMac was a helluva player in his prime. Have Knicks worked out Henzonja? I heard he has an "edge' to him.

I agree....if only we had 4 picks this year. There will be lots of picks that will turn into all stars, and we will be kicking ourselves.

Unfortunately, so did a lot of folks think the same of Qyntel Woods. Ahh the draft...

In fairness, it was his mentality that was likely his biggest problem.

Forum Po Po and #33 for a reason...

Klay Thompson's dad pretty much said this too this morning on Mike and Mike.

He's not buying into the GS model- said the issue is not style vs style, but the fact that there are so few bigs out there with a traditional post-up game.

I think this is why Saunders pushed to have OK4 brought in for a workout. He supposedly likes his inside game more than Towns', although Towns is the better athlete, and would do better running around against GS.

Minny has a meeting scheduled with him, but not necessarily a workout.

Funny, though, you have to think that Towns and OK4, and even a guy like Russell, might "tank" in a workout with the TWolves because you just know they don't want to play there.

No matter what these kids say in public - you know the don't want to play in Minnesota. Cold weather, limited social scene, small market, etc. However, they have no choice. I remember being at the 87 draft when Reggie Williams (Georgetown) was drafted by the Clippers. You should have seen the look in his face. When they interviewed him, he said how happy was - everyone at the Felt Forum was yelling "Liar, Liar". It was hilarious. When the Celtics selected the late Reggie Lewis - the crowd yelled "Is he Black?". Even the team officials were cracking up.
I think Townes has more upside but I honestly think Okafor fits in better with their young big Gorgui Dieng. If they pick Townes, is there a way to pry Dieng away and develop him for the Knicks?

Funny about Dieng...my theory is that Saunders secretly wants Porzingis to pair him with Dieng, but he might be tossed in one of the many lakes in Minnesota if he did take him. Porzingis will develop a post game, eventually, but for now can play more of a stretch 4 or perimeter shooter. I think he can guard the perimeter better than Towns and his size 20 feet.

Towns will cause there to be a logjam in the middle, mostly on D (his shooting is versatile enough to let him play away from the basket on offense, I think.), and to some extent OK4 does not either.

You take Towns and either he or Dieng have to play at the 4. I don't think either is best suited for this on D.

OK4 is in the same boat with Dieng, and unlike Towns, he is a true post-up guy with a limited outside shot and quickness at this point. They might have to trade Dieng, who I don't think has an outside game, and might have issues guard quicker PFs.

Does Dieng have a reputations for being a perimeter defender? I think of him a shot-blocking big.

I know you would like that but, we just found out that Phil had a secret workout for Russell.

Think about another potential draft pick who was staying in New York City for at least a week until he went to Las Vegas for a workout that has become such a bone of contention red herring for some of you.

none of these workouts are announced... the reporters have to pry info from players agents and even going to the players themselves.... other teams announce it... the knicks haven't...

russell was seen wearing sixers gear after the lottery... it doesn't seem like he's opposed to going there... and he just worked out for the sixers...

there's no reading these tea leaves... it just is what it is...

Hezonja's frame looks more filled out and NBA ready than Porzingis to me. Though his supposed attitude issues sort of scare me.

I like that we gave him food poisoning to try and thwart his Sixers workout. I get the impression he's very enthused about being a Sixers, and pretty indifferent to being a knick. Sixers press said he killed the workout and was very high on being drafted by them
