Duncan and Parker are the key players for the Spurs. Protect and AttackThey open up the 3pt shot.....Not the other way around! So yes you are right about the Spurs as a model for building a team.
Mudiay is your Parker....Towns is your Duncan.
I agree with this so much.
You absolutely need shooters to be able to capitalize on opportunities Duncan/Parker create. But they create the opportunities in the middle of the floor. Without that piece, the perimeter D can just stay home. You need to be able to create havoc in the middle and kick it out.
Yup...and more Yup.
Not many teams get the open 3s GS gets.
They do those very high multiple screens, and for the most part they really don't care about the traditional pick and roll pass down low, but Curry is a special player as both shooter and passer- not sure anyone else like him exists in the NBA
I love Mosgov, but if you had an elite post up player on the Cavs, GS would be in a lot of trouble- they would be punished on the defensive end down low, and the 3pt shooters on the Cavs would eventually get better looks. Think about any of the great post-up centers and what they would have done to that small team GS put out yesterday. There would be tradeoffs, sure, but Bogut is too slow and the others too small to stop an elite post-up man.
I think SA would have had a better chance against GS than the other teams GS beat in the West because they have a more flexible offense.
I just want a balanced and efficient offense that can be adaptable.
A question. If you are the Lakers, do you go for the potentially dominant post-up game OK4 might have, or the outside game and passing Russell might give them?
If you are in the West, do you draft with GS in mind?
EnySpree: Can we agree to agree not to mention Phil Jackson and triangle for the rest of our lives?
