He was told to stay on the floor and avoid foul trouble. He played his role to a national championship. I guarantee you if Towns was on Duke coach K would have told him the same. You see how Memphis plays with Gasol and Zack the Lakers would do the same. Randle showed good range on his jumpers. |

![]() Hopefully this kid is able to get himself back to where he was in this pre-injury video -- if he can (and I think he will--still very young), that's a hell of a player. Athletic/skilled all-star caliber PF for the next 10-15 years right there.
Talked about this a few days back -- if the Lakers still covet Melo, give me a package built around Randle (would need some kind of assurance that's he's healthy -- current medical reports, maybe permission to sit in on one of his workouts? -- and likewise, grant them access to Melo so they can verify his health), Jordan Clarkson, Jabari Brown, pick 27 and/or pick 34 or a 1st round pick in next year's draft. Put that together with pick 4, maybe a high 2nd round pick we can hopefully purchase for cash, a couple of standout young DL FAs and 2-4 key NBA FAs -- that's a pretty damn good rebuild on the fly. I prefer that incoming potential package from the Lakers over what we gave Denver to get Melo...The Lakers may balk at this (I probably would if I were them) but then again, they may like the star power with Kobe/Melo along with whoever at pick 2, plus their cap room to attract some key FAs and be thinking 'showtime'... If I'm Phil, I'd push hard for this trade...Sell it as Kobe teaming up with Melo (something both would want) and whatever difference-maker they get with pick #2 (the key here for them is they get Melo AND keep pick 2). I'd even throw in any combination of THJ, Early and/or Galloway (all replaceable) to sweeten the pot and make this work. Run it by Jeanie, Phil. Nothing to lose... Not only am I concerned with Melo's health both short and long-term, I just don't see him as the key piece to lead, to make sure whoever we pick at 4 gets acclimated and made to feel like a top player and take this team to where we all want it to go. I mean you even got Jared Dudley calling him the most overrated player in the game recently for Pete's sake, saying he's no Lebron, can't lead, doesn't mesh well with his teammates and doesn't make anyone around him better. All true and if you don't want to listen to Dudley, Chauncey Billups said similar stuff a month or so ago. I'm tellin' ya man -- if there's even a chance we can pull this off, you do this move and don't look back. |

![]() I'm not convinced he'll be good- he looked pretty bad in summer league until the last game or two, then got injured. OK4 is clearly the better player so if I were them I'd draft OK4 and look to trade Randle (I don't think they can play together effectively). Hopefully they go for Russell though- it's the only shot we have at landing any of the top 3, and even then it's highly unlikely.
