Isiah I think is shoping KT in many ways, one of which is chasing Crawford with KT as the first bait. That brings other suiters for KT to the table with offers. If he can find somthing, thats cool. If he can package KT with an ending deal for another Big, even better.
But if the days of bringing in big names for the attendence buzz (only)is over, so be it. We can be competitive and rebuild over time. We must get under the cap at some time if we want free agents, but even more important we must develope kids even if it means using them for future trades. I admire what Cube is doing in Dallas even more. It looked like he was going to spiral into absurd payroll but has taken measures to get younger and slowly restock his roster. Losing Nash opens up opportunity for Dallas going forward.
On the surface, big deals can hurt long term. Isiah will have a tough job ahead keeping a balance of being competitive and building up new assets.
If he wants to get Swift for KT and an expiring deal, that makes sense. If he thinks Sweets is ready for prime time, then KT for an ending deal and a draft pick is not going to pay off this year, but its an asset.
