Iguodala leads Sixers; Nelson, West make summer debuts

http://www.philly.com/mld/philly/sports/basketball/9095078.htm

The 76ers and the Saint Joseph's duo of Jameer Nelson and Delonte West got off to good starts as NBA summer leagues began last night.

Andre Iguodala, the Sixers' top pick in the draft, scored 15 points in a 79-67 win over the hosts in a Minnesota Timberwolves Summer League game at the Target Center.

Iguodala, a 6-6, 207-pound forward selected ninth overall, was 3-for-9 from the field and had six rebounds, two assists and two steals.

The Sixers also were led by Willie Green, who had 23 points, Demetrius Alexander, who added 12, and John Salmons, who had 10 points and three steals.

Green scored 12 of his points in the second quarter to help the Sixers to a 50-36 halftime lead.

Minnesota outscored the Sixers, 17-9, in the third quarter, but the Sixers regrouped and led by as many as 12 points midway through the fourth quarter.

Minnesota was led by Keith McLeod, who had 19 points, and Josh Davis, who added 18.

Nelson and West made their debut in the Pepsi Pro Summer League, held at the RDV Sportsplex in Orlando.

Nelson, selected 20th by the Denver Nuggets before being traded to the Magic, had 13 points on 4-for-10 shooting, five assists, four rebounds and two steals in an 89-73 loss to Cleveland. The Magic's Dwight Howard, the No. 1 pick in the draft, had seven points, 11 rebounds and four blocks.

The Celtics' West, the 24th overall pick, had six points on 3-for-9 shooting, with six rebounds, two assists and one block in an 86-69 win over the New Jersey Nets.

maybe too early to saay that, but seeing his age and physical abilities, he may be very well suited for that kind of "no so organized" summer league games.

That doesn't lower anything he did btw.

Cavaliers: Wagner, Jackson lead summer squad to win

The News

The Cavaliers summer league team defeated the Magic squad 89-73 on Monday, and guard Dajuan Wagner and rookie Luke Jackson led the way. Wagner scored 23 points, grabbed seven rebounds, and dished out five assists, while Jackson chipped in 19 points, four rebounds, six assists, and four steals. Wagner is transitioning to point guard this offseason, and Tuesday marked his debut at the position. "He did well [playing point guard]," Magic point guard Jameer Nelson told the Cleveland Plain Dealer. "He ran his team, he scored points and his decision making was good. His team won, so he did better than I did."

Heat: Wright debuts with 30 points

The News
The first half of rookie guard Dorell Wright's initial Pro Summer League game wasn't very noteworthy, as the 18-year-old scored just five points to go along with five turnovers against the Wizards. The recent high school graduate changed things around in the second half, though, scoring 13 points in the third quarter and 12 points in the fourth. "I started gaining my confidence,'' Wright told the Miami Herald. "As soon as I hit my first bucket, I was like, 'Yeah, I'm going to come out here and figure things out.'" Wright finished with a game-high 30 points in the 89-59 summer league loss to the Wizards.
