Briggs, since you are a UConn man, I'm sure you have some insight into Thabeet. What happened? I thought his game would translate into a defensive center in the old Clifford Ray mold. I saw him go against Georgetown with Roy Hibbert and he totally intimidated him. As an ex-college player myself you know when your opponent 'blinks' and he had Hibbert hesitating all game. I thought he would at least be on his level as a pro. Do you think there is any salvageable there for the Knicks - maybe as a minimum wage 3rd string big man, if they don't retain Cole Aldrich? Just curious as to your take.

No relation - just throwing the name out there. Knicks will need minimum salaried bench depth, regardless. Aldrich may be looking for too much $$. Maybe there are some active bigs in the D-League that need an opportunity. Not sure who is the Player Development man on the Knicks staff - but Knicks have the financial resources to explore and develop untapped players. Can't just rely on ping pong balls and big money free agents to save the day. At some point, development and improvement has to come from within. Excluding Galloway, I wasn't overly impressed with the progress of their Westchester D-League team.

He's not a bad athlete, but he's not quick. He's very gangly and doesnt make small quick movements well... the kind you make during defensive adjustments. Now this isnt a problem with lots of other bigs. Marc Gasol is a plodder and quite slow for example but he saves himself those kind of adjustments by having superior positioning and footwork (feel for the game) probably getting his butt kicked by Pao since puberty. Thabeet is very late to BB and simply doesnt have that feel for the game and instincts that come over time.
So what you see is a guy who looks like he's tripping over his feet, and it much slower than he actually is. Other times he's over compensating for his poor positioning so he looks like a spazz trying to make up ground.

I dont know much about his work ethic. If he loves the game or likes it enough to work hard I would def take a shot at him. If he could learn better positioning I see no reason he couldnt be a good player. Of course Im sure other teams see this and have tried so what do I know

agree 100%, although Langston is a very good player and looks to be a good pro and a rotation guy at worst. If your dleague team can create a guy (or two) like that every year your doing something right.

I have a feeling Ledo might end up being a decent player... I like his game, its just very sloppy. If he can clean up his handle and play a bit more under control I could see him quickly passing Timmy JR, which based on how Hardaway has played that should not be too hard

I'm sure Briggs will get to you soon.

I remember watching him at UCon and never understood the hype. Few instincts as a player. No lateral movement. Didn't he start the game later in life?

I blame his coaching a little bit, but it's also on him. He should have been working on a few go to moves down low to the point where they became automatic. A hook, a short turnaround using the backboard. He did not need to do that much to be valuable on offense.

I know you remember Henry Finkel, even he was able to carve out a small role on some good teams.

Blocking out for rebounds- not something he did/does well. He also does not have the greatest nose the ball after a missed shot. He can block shots, but will also pick up a lot of fouls against decent big men.

One way to evaluate a big man as tall as Thabeet is to imagine what they would look like if they were smaller- maybe 6'8, and if he played the same way he does now (and then) at the smaller height he would not have been drafted and probably would not be playing the game anymore, IMO.

Still, I would invite him to SL and see what is there. Can't hurt, but what aspect of his present game would Phil be interested in?

Don't think so, but if true, this would be Briggs' "nice guy" alter ego.

Briggs scouted Finkel from his high chair and had him on his mock draft.

Damn, someone went "Finkel" on us!!!

I dont know who is messing around--but I can tell tell you that there is not a scintilla of a chance Id make up a new handle in order to post on a basketball message board and Im sure Martin could verify that by simply looking at the IP of the posters address. That is immature idiotic and makes zero sense. And I dont need a nice guy alter ego --Im already nice

The Knicks have invited Alex Kirk to participate on their summer league squad. Bachynski was on Westchester for the last part of the d league season. He had flashes where he was very good but didn't seem to get a lot of minutes. I am not sure if he was in shape.

He's also hedging his bets and playing with Memphis in their SL.

Not bad on offense, but seems slow on the defensive end.

He was hurt when we got him, I think. Would be nice if we find he is in great shape.
