Jeff Van Gundy responded to the firing of Tom Thibodeau during a Monday conference call previewing The Finals.

Van Gundy's comments about the Thibodeau situation reportedly upset the Chicago Bulls' front office earlier this season.

"I've got a couple comments. One, I'm pulling my name out of the Chicago Bulls running for head coach," said Van Gundy. "Nobody has a sense of humor anymore."

"The statement that they put out when they let Tom go proves once again that every organization needs a vice president of common sense," Van Gundy continued. "When you have a public relations, high powered public relations business put that out and then you have multiple people have to co-sign it to put it out, and it just absolutely reeked of a lack of class, it shows that you just need somebody to say whoa. Let's just acknowledge his greatness, Thiboeau's greatness, and let's just move on. But it didn't happen that way.

"And in some ways, in an odd way, I think it was good because, to me, that statement revealed exactly who each person was. It reveals who Jerry Reinsdorf is. It reveals who Gar Forman is. And Tom Thibodeau's statement reveals who he is. Everybody had to put their name finally on who they were, and they did. I think that's great."

does this mean that Jimmy will not re-sign?

lol. yes i think he resigns with chicago (because they have the most money to offer) but id love to get him

Knicks should be improved: win about 40 games and maybe sneak into the playoffs. Melo, Rose and even Noah will have some nice moments however this team should be about PORZINGUS. the sooner they make him the primary player, the better

He supposedly loves being a Bull. I don't know if Thibs being fired changes that. I think they were tight.

I think a few players soured on Thibs by the end of the season. Also there was that spat between Rose and Butler. However, he'll still re-sign and even if he did want to leave, they would just match and keep him.

Yeah, they're not letting Butler go. It's not his choice to leave.

It'll be interesting to see if some of these RFA go the Greg Monroe route and play out their qualifying offer to become unrestricted free agents in 2016 when the cap goes up.

Players are usually insulated from the BS that exists above them.

As a Restricted Free agent expect Bulls to take all of the two weeks to match and make it harder for him to resign anywhere else.
Reinsdorf actually hired Thibs and thus created the riff when the President and Gm don't hire their guy. As for JVG the dude got tramatized when Phil was wooed to take his job in NY.
I like Jeff but he is in the entertainment business now and does create greater controversy as such to have a greater point of view. Thibs was his assistant for many years and is obviously loyal to him.
I don't disagree with his view here.

If anyone knows can the knicks pull a "Lin" type front loaded deal on Chicago that they can't match?

Jimmy won't have a choice cause they'll match whatever offer he gets and yes i think he'll sign a offer sheet from whatever team he wants to play for the most and Chicago will match. I'll actually be curious to see who he does sign the offer with cause it will say a lot about what team he really wants to play for and i hope he signs one with us just for that reason.

I actually would do this. It's a 2 asset for 1 trade (we're trading cap and pick 4 for Butler at prob $16M per year)... but, yeah, he's so good I'd do it. I'd stretch Calderon, still be able to offer Monroe $15M

Galloway
Butler
Melo
Monroe
Cole/Bargs

That's a damn good team... other than that pesky center position.

But I don't see the Bulls moving him - I see them building around Butler and maybe moving Rose if anything.
