Last year he seemed to lose weight early in the offseason (then regain it) this year he's bulked up- not sure if it's because he's gained weight from not being able to run, or an indication we aim to move him to PF- would you rather he bulk up for PF or slim down for SF?

Forwards are interchangeable in the triangle and unless we incorporate spacing as a higher priority I don't know if I see a benefit in playing small. Ideally I think he's more effective as he creates more mismatches at the 4 though.

Marshmelo looking to puff up to 30 seconds in the microwave mid-season stay puft levels of bloatedness, always a good sign

In all seriousness if he's going to play at the PF it's alright for him to buff up a bit but it must be from strength-building and not just eating.

As you get older, you get heavier.....So you need to get stronger. No need to play major minutes at SF....He's strong enough to play PF effectively on both ends. Doesn't have the quickness to play defense on SF. Winslow does, but I think our weakness to fill the most is a defensive starting center or PG.

Yeah it really does looks like he is preparing to play mostly PF...... Good

It's really not so much your upper body where you put on the most weight. He can look a lot bigger up top and it may only add 5 lbs of actual weight. Your quads and glutes are where you can add the most mass. It doesn't have to mean he's gonna be slower just by adding some muscle. If anything you can retain your quickness with good proportional strength training giving you some added functional mass. If it's just fat then yeah that could slow you down. Adding more fast twitch muscle will keep your athletic ability much like how Lebron and Blake are still explosive despite being thickly muscled guys.

It's good to see Melo doing some strength training on his upper body. I've often thought he could add some upper body strength to go with his lower body strength. Probably more a result of him not being able to go hard on the lower body he may have decided to do more work on his upper body. Whatever the reason it's good to see. Hopefully he's able to play for a few years before he needs any serious surgery on his knees again.

And here I thought black was slimming.

Wasn't June supposed to be when he was allowed to start training? Pretty sure something was scheduled to begin.

This is injury-related weight, IMO. Just wish he had altered his diet a bit more to compensate for the inactivity.

Pretty well established that it gets harder to lose weight as you age, as is getting into competitive shape after being out with an injury.

This is why you shut down your season as soon as you know you need surgery.

The added weight can't help but put more stress on his knee, too.

This was one of the quotes with this photo:

Time sometimes flies like a bird, sometimes crawls like a snail; but a man is happiest when he does not even notice whether it passes swiftly or slowly

At this point in his career time is flying like a bird, and it would be nice for him to notice this and live with a little more desperation...maybe even slow down that bird with a little exercise and dieting.

At least he can enjoy his cigars...I think he smokes the healthy ones.

Man WTF? Lebron and Melo are the same damn age. Melo is still in his prime. He's not fat he's looking stronger. Nothing wrong with that. You can bet that they have him working on everything they can while he's limited in pushing his knee. It can only help him to strengthen his upper body a bit more.

With the anti-gravity treds/elipticals athletes can keep in shape while strengthening their body

So you chose that photo rather than the two of him actually working out, where you can see it's clearly muscle. Lame.

Sorry, That was the first photo that popped up, the most recent one. I'm also a know criticizer of the guy...can't help myself.

Here is one you probably will like. No cigar in this one:

it makes total sense to add even more weight to that balky knee... after all putting on weight worked wonders for tim duncan.
knicks win 38-43 games in 16-17. rose MUST shoot no more than 14 shots per game, defer to kp6 + melo, and have a usage rate of less than 25%

if by "assistant" you mean "possessor of common sense" then yes

Exactly, it looks to me like he's more cut up then he's every been, but then again how can you truly tell when he's sitting down fully clothed,
