Our MLE will most likely not be used in entirety this offseason in my opinion. GMs have set the market at ridiculous levels. Steve Nash almost getting maxed out. Marquis Daniels for the full MLE. Marcus Camby at 10 mil per. Okur and Foyle getting insane amounts of cash. Jamal Crawford now believing and will most likely get a deal well above the full MLE. I don't think we should go after Crawford for 7 mil or more a year because Frank Williams can step in that role of a 3rd guard and be very productive.

These huge offers and the fact that many teams will resign their own players will lead to much competition for the remaining free agents for the MLE.

IF we don't deal for Crawford, I don't see us getting him for the MLE, or Stephen Jackson or Etan Thomas who washington will retain.

We should look at guys like Doleac, Chris Mihm, and Chris Anderson for half the MLE.

I also think our best bet, pending on the SL performance, is to cut Mutombo for a roster spot and possibly Cerezey. I would rather add Ariza, one of the three point guards, resign Dermarr, and look hard at Chen. Cutting Mutombo and replacing him with a guy like Mihm or Anderson doesn't hurt finanically because he is not owed that much more money.

Marbury, Houston, TT, Sweetney, KT, Frank Williams, Nazr, Chris Anderson, Moochie, Dermarr, Ariza, Othella,(IL)--Shandon, Cerezey, Chen

I think Dermarr is gonna impress in SL and be ready to contribute as a sharpshooter/slasher off the bench. Sweetney is going to put up great numbers (i wouldn't be surprised with 15, 10). We then overturn the bottom half of the roster from overpaid vets to rookies and youngsters with tons of upside with hardly any financial risk.

Add this to insane list....

Skip to my Lou getting 6 years, 29 mil from the Raptors.

(The 29 mil is ridiculous enough, but has he really proven he can be an effective player 6 years from now? Are they kidding me?)

This is insane. Adonal Foyle signed for $40 million. The guy averaged THREE POINTS! My god, this is nuts.

I'd be happy with that move, but I want to keep Mutumbo and get rid of Cezary first, because at least Mutumbo's a shotblocker.

are you crazy? man, those expiring deals are one of the few assets we have. If we have to cut someone, it must shandon cause he's uselsee and has no trade value.

Read Cuban's response to why he did not overpay Steve Nash. That gives an excellent overview and business perspective of why it is a must to overturn the bottom half of our overpaid vets with young guys who can break out. It also does not hamstring us for trades in the future. We already have guys that can't be moved in Houston, Shandon, and TT -- and if we do move them we will get back just as bad contracts. The point is, Dolan won't allow us to swallow shandon's deal. He will, in my opinion, swallow the last year of Mutomobo and Cerezey to replace them with up and coming studs if the SL is a sucess. Who do you want to add with the expiring contracts? Another guy that can't be moved for 3 years just because he has done something in this league? If we move Othella for a guy with 1 or 2 years left and a draft pick that's fine with me -- otherwise replace them with youth!

Only guy worthy of the full MLE that we still have a chance at is Etan Thomas and that's only if Wiz get Dampier.

It wouldn't be a bad thing to get into the season when the same lineup and with Sweets and FW getting more minutes. A lot of teams in the league still don't know much about Frankie so if we give him a lot of minutes in a 3 guard rotation you will definitely see his trade value go up a lot.

Nice post. I don't thing we should trade KT (a big) ending contracts of big's, for a offensive chucker (small). I think we can do better especially if we are asked to take on contracts.
