We wouldn't be a contender but I'd definitely be intrigued with the prospect of having Goran Dragic and Chris Bosh with some combination of Chris Andersen, Josh McRoberts, Mario Chalmers, Loul Deng and Shabazz Napier.
The Heat, if they really liked Mundiay, would probably give up Dragic in a sign and trade, except they can't sign and trade him to the Knicks. Without Dragic as part of the deal, there is no real trade scenario between the Knicks and Heat that would work.
I think an argument can be made that sign and trading Dragic ( just a hypothetical here but it's not possible), then a contract dump of Luol Deng and Birdman for the 4th overall plus Clemanthony Early would help the Heat in the long and short term but only help the Knicks in the short term.
A unit of Melo, Dragic, Deng, Birdman and some roster churn plus Galloway might be enough to get the 8th seed. Dragic though would end up a millstone around the neck deal by the last two years. It would be a one year playoff push that would cost the Knicks their next three years.
The Knicks wouldn't get Bosh nor Napier nor McRoberts in any deal.
Bosh is on the wrong side of his career and the jury is still out on whether he is an empty stats player; at least in the capacity of a no.1 or no.2 on a contender. I think that Riley would listen if there is a realistic possibility that Dwayne Wade is leaving and Dragic is pushing for a max deal. I think that he'd take a page out of his 2003 playbook and just rebuild their team using our no.4 and their own no.10 pick.
