Free-agent center Adonal Foyle has agreed to re-sign with the Golden State Warriors to a five-year contract worth $41.6 million, his agent, Lon Babby, told ESPN Insider Chad Ford late Monday evening.

The deal, according to Babby, starts at $6.5 million next season and has a team option in Year 6 for a little over $10 million, Babby told Ford. Contracts cannot be officially signed until July 14.

The news will come as a blow to many teams hoping to land the oft-injured big man.

Foyle averaged 3.1 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.0 blocks in 44 games for the Warriors last season. He was considered by many teams to be one of the few available big men willing to sign for the mid-level exception. However, in the end, Golden State gave him a far more lucrative deal to stay in the Bay Area.

Golden State's willingness to sign him to such a big contract likely spells the end of Erick Dampier's tenure in Golden State. Dampier is an unrestricted free agent and has been flirting with several teams, most prominently the Memphis Grizzlies.

This contract make KT's and Nazr's look awfully cheap. Maybe we timed the market right when we signed/traded for them ... and maybe they'll become more attractive trade bait after a couple other ridiculous contracts are signed. That's the hopeful part of all this. The other side: who are we going to be able to sign for the MLE to help us up front?

there's is serious inflation out there. Gonna be tough to get anything with the MLE. Furthermore, now that okur is likely to be gone, sheed will be able to get a nice big fat contract.

What a cruel way to loose 2 targets (though very longshot) at the same time.

Foyle at $8 mil per is a total rip-off...now if ANYONE thinks Dampier will sign for a MLE level deal, they need to get their heads checked.

thats why i knew we would have no chance at a guy like stromile swift. there are to many teams that have cap room this year--and i knew it was likely that most teams would spend to keep their own. the market right now for a premium fA is a contract that probably starts at 6.5mm--well above the 4.9 we can offer.

Really our best bet is to look for deals and kep away from these prices.

yeah, but you thought the Knicks had a good chance of signing Damps to a MLE deal...i don't get your logic here...obviously, Damps & his agent are asking for upwards of $10 mil per, so the Warriors chose to sign Foyle instead at a few less million.

It came out of dampier's own mouth---- he said he wanted to come east and would take less money and I believe it still holds water. The Pacers seem to have more goods to sign and trade--we dont have anything close to what they could offer a team. Until he is signed, we remain an interesting Option IMHO, BUT I think this market and his agent will likely go for the exuberant amount of cash out there.

personally, i think Dampier will end up in Miami or in Memphis via sign & trade.

I don't know what the hell GS is thinking giving Foyle a contract like that. One thing is for sure, they are certainly making it harder for teams over the cap to sign free agents like Erick Dampier and Stromile Swift.

dampier is mr. contract year. i'm weary of him. is he better than nazr? yes. but i easily see him playing back to form next season, 7 points 6 rebounds a game. (if that's the case, then he's not better than nazr)

I cannot even understand that number!... he has never even had "flashes of brilliance" at any point of his career. NOT EVEN in the mid-90s did teams invest this much money on someone unknown.

I think they just took themselves out of the running for a bunch of FAs. It's a shame, the GSW looked like they were on the right track a year ago, before they couldn't work something w/ Arenas.

I completely agree, you just don't give that big of a contract to a career back up center. Foyle is not a bad player at all, in fact, he can turn into a decent starting center but you just don't give him that much money until he has proven that he is a good starting center. As I said before, this just makes it harder for teams over the cap to sign free agents because free agents are gonna see how much money Foyle is getting and now they will want more money (similar to what is going on with Jamal Crawford, he won't take the MLE anymore after seeing how much money Marquis Daniels got).

off topic though in a way related to GS, I find it pretty fun that arenas and jamison will be reunited soon since they didn't mesh very well, and jamison was happy to see arenas living.

Yea Washington is becoming the Golden State of the East now that they have Hughes, Arenas, and Jamison.

Foyle's a great shotblocker and a pretty good rebounder, but he's no Mutumbo in his prime, and he can't score at all. Truly a ridiculous contract and 25-30 million more than I anticipated he'd get for a 5 year deal.

when players command that kind of loot, that is why they call the nba a player's league
