I'm 60 now- have to go back to when I was 30-35;
I'm 5'10" and I've always had an issue with gravity. I was a FB player, wrestled, and played some baseball. Played some 5/5 full court ball- used to play against a bunch of cops on the weekends, many years ago.
Handles- 3 Got better as I got older, to the point where I was not an embarrassment, but I was better off the ball. Would wilt against real pressure.
Defense - 7 The wrestling helped, I had good lateral movement and I was good at staying in front of and dogging an opponent. I could be posted up, but would battle for position. At a certain point, though, the quicker guys would cause me trouble. Had a lot of pride in my D, though. Dave Debusschere was my favorite Knick growing up. From my own playing I've come to realize that D is over 50% mental toughness and desire. When I was in wrestling shape I was pretty tenacious.
Shot- 2/7.5 Unless I was playing 1/1, I was very limited going to the basket, and was poor with my left hand, although that got better later on. I would rarely score inside against larger opponents. I was a pretty good midrange jump shooter, though- spotting up and off the dribble. Used to practice a lot of shooting when I was a supervisor at a recreation program. Actually hit 55 and 44 foul shots in a row- and I had to get the ball back myself. My range was limited- I was most accurate inside the HS 3pt line. Tried to copy Bill Bradley in terms of moving to get open- JJ Redick might be a better example today, but I needed space to get my shot off, since I did not jump well. A good defender who could keep up with and stay in front of me would really limit my value offensively.
Playmaking- 2=3 I was not unselfish, but I was not a good enough ball handler and did not see the court will enough while dribbling to be a good distributor. I was a liability on a fast break.
Rebounding - 2-3 I was tough in terms of boxing out, and had enough strength to annoy some folks who didn't understand boxing out, but I did not have the height or jumping ability. I was a better rebounder in 3/3 games, but still nothing to write home about.
