Watching Mudiay play in that video it is clear he was rusty (after the injury - out 3 months) but man do you see potential star written all over him.
He changes gears better than any young guy I've seen in years. This stands out and is a huge talent to have at his age. (Not to compare him here to Chris Paul, but that is who came to mind... The kid has a hell of a changeup (baseball) let's say and great control of his dribble while knowing where the defenders are.) His mistakes seemed more on his shots close up, not getting there.
Nice dribble when he changes gears as well, great hesitations moves, nice step back dribble and shot (all advanced).
His shot needs A LOT of work but doesn't look crappy. Looks more like he is lacking confidence.
He has very good eyes on the court, makes the passes quickly.
Defense - The few clips showed he had quick hands and good instincts. He can be quite good here and has the length (watch him Swat Marbury on a hard drive right under the net.) His height is nice. Quick feet.
He did seem like a kid out there quite often (mistakes) but the fair amount of poise made me think rust again.
Lot of unknowns about Mudiay and as others have said, his workout is going to be the difference. His talent is clear (you can see so much upside.)
His athleticism didn't stand out much to me. He wasn't blowing by defenders. I'm pretty sure he just was not in the best shape.
If I'm scouting him for star potential on that video I say 6 or 7 on a 10 point scale. But again, the rust...
We better due our DD on this kid, cause he has the potential to be VERY special. Tough situation, you see the talent but also the bone headed plays (like his age would suggest).
I really do think he was just rusty so we are gonna have to look at some old tape and again, the workout is the wildcard. I hope we REALLY do our Due Diligence if we pass.
