With the triangle in place and the 4th pick which looks like Mudiay.

Mudiay if a big physical guard. Carmelo Anthony is a big physical SF. Maybe we should look to build our identity that way. Going after big physical players at each position and wearing teams out.

In a sense the Triangle is somewhat of a Power Offense. You have 2 post options and big guards who can also post. You have constant cutting and attacking the basket. It's certainly not a finesse offense like all the 4 out 1 in offenses we see. Phil had some pretty big teams and I think he'd like to do that in NY. Only I think he'd like them to be more mobile bigs. He needs a low post threat and other bigs who can also score away from the basket. Bigs who can pass and move effectively. Defensively Phil wants length and mobility. Big players who can cover smaller, quicker players out near the 3pt line. With the way teams play now that is going to be a necessity.

We need Melo to get a hankering to play with Rondo (et al) someplace like LA in the next couple of years, so we can trade him for the guy we wanted in this draft (e.g., Towns) and another pick or two, plus players to match salaries.

Our rebuild doesn't ALL have to happen next season. We can build the team over a couple of years. I think on this board, and particularly after the season we just had, we tend to be shortsighted and think "how do we build a contender right away." But if we're going to get there, it may well involve getting young value for Melo while he's in his prime and the superstars are still looking to collude.

I just want a well balanced and flexible team, which can adapt to whomever we are facing.

Ultimately, you want abase of intelligent, team oriented players with all around games, spiced up with some specialty players who can do certain things very well when you need them.

EnySpree: Can we agree to agree not to mention Phil Jackson and triangle for the rest of our lives?

Phil agrees with u. He's going to want a team that can defend against any lineup. This is why he's stressing defense. In combination with an efficient and reliable offense that has multiple dimensions. Both inside and out. The blueprint of the kind of team Phil is looking to put together is fairly clear. I think his past teams are a hint to what he'll look to replicate to some degree.
