How much of this epic loss is on him?

He got a lot of credit for winning in Boston but is really good X's and O's coach?

No question that he is a good guy and very affable but I pin a lot of this on him.

so here is what phil is thinking ....

I think he's a decent enough Xs and Os guy, buy he's a mediocre GM. The team's depth, particularly at the forward positions, is horrible. The Hawes acquisition is a bust and I can't understand why DOC has picked up a veteran PG to back up Paul. They needed a steadying hand that can run the offense when Crawford and Austin Rivers were playing outside the system.

Bad GM, but when a team chokes like his does, I blame the players.

can't just blame the players. You need to right the ship.

That comeback had < .01 chance of happening.

A big part is on the coach.

Did he miss 5 point blank layups at the rim like Blake? Did he let Jason Terry, a 37 y/o player never known for his Defense guard him?

He deserves 40% of the blame maybe. He is a terrible GM but hardly anyone was worried about that until the 4th qtr in game 6. He did not cause his players to start playing hot potato with the ball.

He should have paid Collinson though. Now, they have zero money to do anything in FA if they plan on resigning Jordan. Even he leaves they'll have to wait until he decides and then will only have around 8m to replace the center position and improve their bench. They'll gain another 5 if they do not pick up Crawford option.

Agree,
It won't hurt doc legacy
However up 3-1.
19pt lead late in game and in own gym

Got Woodson and Lawrence Frank on the bench with him.

Doc is a good motivator and I doubt he "let" his team get complacent.
They ran out of Gas. Tough Spurs series beat them up. They got the 3-1 lead which of course says they should have closed them out but
maybe fatigue got them.

I used to wonder about his understanding of offense but that offense he put together this past season was tremendous. Their defense really slipped which is odd to me.

Doc the GM should be fired. Here were his recent acquisitions to improve his team: Jordan Farmar, Byron Mullins, Stephen Jackson, Chris Douglas Roberts, Spencer Hawes, Glen Davis, Jared Cunningham, Ekpe Udoh. Hedu Turkaglu, Jordan Hamilton, Nate Robinson and Austin Rivers.
Most likely after the resign Deandre Jordan (to a big contract), they will only have the $3 mill mid level exception to improve their team. So basically they cant improve their team
Knicks should be improved: win about 40 games and maybe sneak into the playoffs. Melo, Rose and even Noah will have some nice moments however this team should be about PORZINGUS. the sooner they make him the primary player, the better

Firing him now does not change last season. What would you have a new GM do this summer to correct it?

i think doc is an excellent coach but shaky with his GM skills. Id simply hire someone to take over his GM duties. In terms of correcting things this summer - I'm not sure theres an easy fix. i think they will work with what they have, win their 50+ games and hope they dont choke

Trade Blake, CP3 to the Knicks for the #1 pick and some 2020ish picks and cash. Then allow Phil to sign DJordan and make him shoot 5 billion free throws before training camp.

We watched our quality bench start for most of the season.

What a collapse. Don't buy the out of gas thing. They beat the Rockets in those 3 games by how much again?

This is what Doc said

[quoteI want to fix it. I want to win. That’s why I came here. I knew when I came here that roster-wise it was going to be very difficult. The first thing I did before I took this job, I looked at the roster and we laughed. I was like, "What the [expletive] can we do with this?" It was more the contracts. But we have to try to do it somehow. I don’t know how yet, but something will work out.

Lol. Is he for real? Doc the GM is a funny dude.
