have a couple questions, for the ones that know and understand the sport very well, with experience playing FOOTBALL in high school or some level, along with knowing the Giants roster and moves this summer...
Let me start by saying I am not very knowledgeable in the football, though I have some idea of NFL players due to fantasy sports but would not recognize sets/schemes the strenghts/weakness of the opponents CB/Safteys etc... how to break it down, per matchup/strength weakness
1- How is our OFFENSIVE LINE, hope it is improved as I know we will have to play to a similiar philsosophy that Brady did in the SuperBowl by getting rid of the football very quickly *a reason I love the addition of Vareen while able to steal some plays/philosophies of the master of spycheating* versus Defenses like Seahawks, Bills, Jets, Dolphins, not sure if San Fran? Detroit?
2- How is our DEFENSE, do we have youth/veterans to pressure the better OFF lines to stop the run and pass? Did we improve signfigantly and be able to get to the QB like we did with Brady with only our 4 rushers?
Also, do not understand why some kickers make so much more money while they are important, New England is overpaying for a Kicker no? Yes I know he punts and kicks FG but seriously a kicker?
It is money not well spent, rather try to draft a young kicker or a veteran, like the kicker for Seahawks, Rams, Cowboys, Chargers, Packers, and Saints, though I do not know if they have switched kickers this off season, while being able to save a roster spot for more depth, but think you will need 2 capable kickers in each game to hold a spot because of possible injuries anyway? I know some teams only have 1 kicker and sign one after they get hurt though but is that 1 spot really that important to overpay for a kicker?
3- ELi's contract will expire soon and he makes about 10m per year, with BIG BRO earning close to double that at some point, while many QB's are making in the range of 100m - 120m, at over 20m a year while Eli took much less with the higher taxes and cost of living with our property in NY, a reason why Collin's, signed with the Cowboys as an undrafted FA/OFF LINE man, are we likely to keep him or possibly get someone on a future draft or do we have anyone that could contribute/develop right now? I remember we use to have a solid back up for Eli with "potential at some point" that never really got to play, forgot if it was Davis Carr/Brady Quin or someone else like that?
I do not understand how the NFL structure works for contracts and when their contract will end for new negatiations/lock out, if their are vet mins pickups/cap holds like for NBA?
But if we keep Eli, are we likely to overpay for him considering he won 2 rings with us and we have a WR like Beckham now that played very well together despite our lack of talent and injuries?
4- Which CURSE is the strongest for injuries? the Madden CURSE or NBA 2k, NBA Live, or another game/sport?
5- The RB's have changed, choosing to go for cheaper younger contracts by commitee, as the workhorse RB eventually becomes too riskey due to the nature of the sport and risk of injury/age/contracts that could be better spent in a QB and receiver league *could be TE or 2 TE sets*
Thought we could have taken a look at Nate Robinson who has great speed/quickeness and is very strong and athletic, though older, he could be brought for cheap, as well as the RB just traded to the Jets from Arizona for a 7th rounder
Are 2 TE's set coming out of the Full Back's position or another position, or even 3 TE's, with one more for blocking purposes
Is Percy Harvin an option that we could take a look at? Do we have any money left to spend? Do we have any future extra draft picks coming or going out in the future to use?
As a cheap TE, I thought The Chargers backup TE was a decent talent for cheap, that was the backup to Gates for a couple of seasons ago, along with former Bills TE that went to the Pats this summer...
Are we better off keeping our own TE's currently who will be FA's after this season?
TE
====
Larry Donnell *Exclusive Rights Free Agent about 600k FA I believe, don't know what pick we would get or how it works or what it means*
He was undrafted but Eli became very selective throwing to him, sometimes not targetting him at all, I feel the TE should always be looked at, at least one of em, as a saftey target who can likely catch hard catches and take a hit, especially vs Defenses that can hit hard and are quick/strong like the Birds...
Dann Fells also FA at about 900k
Adrien Robinson final year of his 4year deal
Jerome Cunningham ?????
Matt LaCosse *signed a 3year deal*
Kickers for FG/PUNT
--------------------------
Place Kicker
1- Josh Brown Signed a two-year, $2.6 million contract. Another $500,000 is available through incentives. Brown is eligible for annual $225,000 roster bonuses and $25,000 workout bonuses in each season. 2015: $1 million, 2016: Free Agent
Place Kicker
2- Chris Boswell 1/7/2015: Signed a reserve/future contract
I am glad we do not pay 5m for a Kicker
Stephen Gostkowski
3/6/2015: Signed a one-year, $4.59 million contract. The deal is fully guaranteed. 2016: Free Agent
He was payed big buckers prior to this one year deal as well, while they did't want to keep Revis because of $$$?
I don't know but maybe he doesn't require needles for his kicks so he deserves more?
What is suprising is that Tom Brady makes NOTHING compared to what these QB's are making now
2/25/2013: Signed a five-year, $60 million contract. The deal is fully guaranteed, including $30 million in signing bonus payments scattered over the first three years. 2015: $7 million, 2016: $8 million, 2017: $9 million, 2018: Free Agen
Is Aaron Hernandaz's contract affecting Pat's contract in anyway possible? As it is a "contract" though not sure if the violation of the law and him not being able to attend games allows him to get any % of the money from the guaranteed portion...
Even if they do not need to pay him but affects their salary cap, I think it is messed up, add in the punishments for flateGATE and those punishments could be the difference in seeing Brady for a chance to contend for another year or 2 with those picks and without an appeal for 4 games out of 17 game schedule?
Is the bye week considered a week or not cause they have a bye on week 4, so not sure if Brady could come back at game 5 or 6???
Who the hell is going to be their CB's? Saftey?
6- For Giants vs Jets, which team is better outside of the QB position with the Jets or Giants?
And who will likely finish the season, the QB they just selected, the poor mans Vick, Geno Smith, Fitz, Bryce Petty, Matt Simms, or another future talent for the Jets?
In the start of last season while we were struggling, I thought it was time for Tom Coflin to go, as they needed a new voice, with many of the older veterans that praised him, are gone already and our DEFENSE was horrible, until Backham gave us hope
Then our CB's got back healthy and didn't look as bad, while being possibly better with some addition/tweaks if improved this summer, judging from what I saw last season
For some stretches they looked like they were a "GOOD" defensive team about 3 games in, I think about week 4-7, around that?
How is the OFF line and RB with Giants vs Jets? I think Jets got a solid RBs by committee as well, I like Ivory/Powell and the trade with Arizona for a 7th rounder with Zack Stacy/Richarson...
Though the QB difference is HUGE, unless the Rookie, Bryce Petty
Backham >>> Marshall at his age, I love Marshall but 1 hand catches at that rate is SWEET!
I would love to get a BIG WR like Marshall or Ashon Jeffrey despite injury concerns, think we payed a bit too much for Dwayne Harris, rather spend more for Marshall or another WR or TE for Bennett again which Bears wanted to save money on as they probably are doing a full rebuild, waiting for Cutler to expire and do not want to pay for Forte either
Was Eli underpaid?, considering he has won the most rings outside of Brady who makes even less ironicially in addition to a 4 game suspension with no pay that might have made a difference in previous years and The Ravens game this past year
Looking at all these QB's that make 20m + though I think Eli Manning is like young Jamal Crawford for NBA vs NFL, meaning he has his weakness's and when he is HOT, HE IS HOT, but he can TO the ball a lot in his career
Though he can throw very good passes that require very good WR's with great timing/chemistry to catch them, and he can easily lose trust in a player as well as gain trust with his WR in his past years like
he did with HAKEEM NICKS, Manningham prior to injuries, Bradshaw *RB*, Victor Cruz, and now Manningham
He had did with the 2 TE's when we won the last Superbowl but they got injured, while he could get hot/cold with some decent talents as well with Larry Donnell and prior TE's with Bennet, and not so well with Jeremy Shockey for the most part...
