He'll be a restricted free agent next year, so until then we'd have trade for him. D Miles is definately someone I wouldn't mind having in the front court.

Getting him would make sense only if we traded TT; they're basically the same player

Thomas is a better 3 point shooter and has more mass.

actually thomas has quite a stroke while miles has no shot whatsoever but has great jumping ability and is a little long. He can also bring slightly a little more of a shot blocking from a SF

I'd rather just keep Timmy.

Miles has the potential to.....I'm sick of that already.

Timmy is the type of guy that scores within the flow of the offense and he is not a headcase. Timmy makes too much money but if we talking about skills.....What is the difference between each?

In my opinion Miles is just a very big guard without a outside touch yet he can block shots. Timmy is a power forward that plays like a guard but can post up well.

Advantage Timmy.....at least for the Knicks....I'd rather Miles stay in Portland.....he fits better there anyway.

Apparently DMiles and Qrich want to sign with the same team, so that immediately eliminates the Knicks.

I'd like to see Tim Thomas for another whole year, I still think there's room for improvement. I don't envision him being a 20 ppg game scorer, but I think he's got the ability to get to 16-18 ppg.

TT is better now, but who has more upside? Miles is only 22 and just completed what should have been his rookie season

MIles is a good example of a kid whom should have gone to college. His overall NBA career might have been served better had he honed his skills. But he got paid nice.

i think Miles could still find a nice role here anyway even if TT was on the team...obviously, that would mean no role for DerMarr or Ariza pretty much though...Miles would be a nice 6th man off the bench for this Knicks squad, but i think i'd like to give DJ a shot to show what he can do next year before we think about adding Miles via trade...he can always be signed next year as a FA if he's worth the MLE...if teams are going to overpay for him, then it makes no sense to trade for him now in the first place.

No thank you. We have some guys at the 3 spot that I want to see first. TT with a full year. Demarr with a full training camp. The rook Ariza.

Tim Thomas is a much better player, hands down, and he is very clutch. That is priceless in the playoffs. I'd rather see him grow during this next full season.

DerMarr Johnson also says he is working hard on his defense and other aspects of the game. I want to see what he does in Summer League, and I want to see him play with some fire in training camp, as opposed to just jumping the gun and getting Miles, who is just as unproven, still.

I went over this a few months ago... but DerMarr's a been a major disappoint in his draft class. There were more than half a dozen swingmen chosen after him who have surpassed his accomplishments at the NBA level.

Ironically, Miles and DJ were part of the same draft class (2000)-- they're kind of similar players, tho DJ is a little bigger and can play some PF... while DJ likes to think he can play some PG.

DJ and Ariza kind of had similar college experiences--- acted as role players on teams full of veterans... DJ just happened to get drafted as a lottery pick w/o having ever put up big numbers!

If we're talking raw athleticism is tops in this group. If we're talking potential, Tim Thomas probably leads the group (Odom/Garnett-type skills--- or shall I say Charles Smith type skills?!), though DerMarr *USED* to be compared to T-Mac, and Miles also was supposed to be a Jordan/Garnett combo.

If we're talking most realized potential, that'd be Tim Thomas--- tho that's pretty sad---> this is a 6'10" mega-athlete w/ skills who hasn't managed to break either boundary of 15ppg/5rpg...

Miles is farther along than DerMarr--- at least Miles seems to have a genuine feel for the game (in spite of having no jumper!), tho undeveloped.

We shall see Ariza shortly. If he makes the team, he'll likely be put into a defensive specialist role to begin with. Could be used along the lines of Josh Howard of the Mavs... or... like Shandon Anderson w/ the Jazz.
