Gerald Wallace – Wallace served as something of a uniformed assistant coach this season with a couple nice, on-court moments sprinkled in between. His massive contract is finally up after next season and there’s already discussion of the Celts offering up one of their first-rounders to anyone who might take that final year and $10.1 million off their hands, as per Basketball Insiders.

Like I said below--Id take Wallace for pick 16 and take Christian Wood 1st Bobby Portis 2nd. We wont have enough of a rebuild to contend with just using straight cap

I would think about this. This is not a bad deal. You can still sign Greg Monroe to a Max and have about $4M to fill in the blanks and then have about $30M in cap space in 2016 when the cap goes up to $89M

I'd do this deal because chances are better that we will add more significant talent with the draft pick that the $10M in room.

I think Wood will be a better NBA defender than Stein when he is finished but with a great dal of offensive upside. Hes a young better version of Camby

If Frank Kaminsky slips--you might be able to get him there too.

That's 12 mil of cap space (Wallace's salary + 16th pick) taken up. I'm not entirely opposed to it but it would make more sense if we're also trading Melo and completely thinking long-term. If we're trying to maximize short-term winning (and we don't want to hand over another lottery pick), we'd keep Melo and use that 12 mil on one or more established players.

This is a deep draft. For 1 yr I would take on Wallaces contract and get a really nice young talent. You never know who drops and we end up getting a nice player in addition to our own top pick!
fishmike 9/27/2024 11:00 PM Ug I hate this. The idea of Towns is great until you see what a pussy he is. Jules is a dog. DD was a flamethrower locked up cheap for 3 more years. First Leon move I hate

Depends on the pick. I decline if it's in the mid 20s or worse.

Agree to disagree on Greg Monroe. His .5 blocks for a big man are scary bad.

You know I gonna spin wit it

I don't have a problem with this kind of deal. This draft has some really good players even after the top 10. Long Term this kind of move could really pay off.

I would do it. At the very least Wallace could be a positive influence on the bench. Might be helpful for tutoring players like Early and Thanasis, and maybe he gives you a few minutes now and then.

Pick #16 could be a decent player if Phil has done his homework.

Looking at draftnet and draft express there will be a lot of good players available at 16. Wallace was still paying at a high level for at least part of his time with the nets. Any chance he bounces back to become a rotation player again? I know he had knee problems and surgery.

even at 20, I'd look at this - I just think its going to be hard for us to add impact players through FA - I'm worried we're adding over the hill players like David West & Elton Brand and signing them for more than vet minimum deals.

Also, our own Bargs will be available - I'd trade for Wallace and their pick and immediately release Wallace, and pick up as many undrafted players as possible, and hope I find another gem like Langston.

My guess is it's the pick in the mid to late 20s. It's just one year left on a rising cap. No way the Knicks will get the 15th or 16th pick for eating one year of Wallace.

If they have a chance to grab Kevin Love(which is what the rumor is) they need to dump salary. No team is going to take on 10.5mm in cap for a possible 25 pick. In that case it would cost two. When a team takes 10.5mm that a huge commitment that is worthy of a large asset. The cap is the same next year---has no effect on anything other than what they may need to pay for Love--which looks like 22mm to start.

If I make this trade, I am going into fee agency with the mindset that I have $19M instead of $12m, because I would use the Stretch prov. on Wallace. IF I don't get a verbal with a FA/s then I will let his contract expire.

I have seen many people from board to board speculate about maybe doing the same thing with GSW and Lee. Wallace would be a much better deal since he cost less and the pick would be sooner(former LA pick).

I doubt they give up a pick that high just to get rid of an insignificant contract at this point. At best, we'd be looking at one of their late first round picks.

It is a bad deal if LaMarcus Aldridge is looking to bolt POR. As far as opportunity costs are concerned, I'd pick him over a mid-first round pick.

Celtics may give up a first rounder to move Gerald Wallace
