I believe you are overstating the effectiveness of the best PGs in this league. For me, the best combination of stats I want when building my team from the offensive perspective is a combination of True Shooting percentage and actually, fouls drawn. Arguably, TS% already includes fouls drawn by turning 2pt plays into 3 point plays, but a guy like Deandre Jordan's TS% will not really show how many fouls he drew cause he misses his free throws A TON. That said, I am fine with that percentage to the extent that the fouls he draws ends up putting the opposing big man on the bench. Defensively, every player has to be considered a strong defender in order to overcome Melo's weaknesses on defense. There are very few players in the league who are leaders. It's not exactly clear who the "leader" of the Hawks is. I don't think you can worry about this to the extent that you build your team with quality players. |

Look at the teams the got swept in the playoffs, not one had a leader, the hawks don't have leadership, but they have a lot of veterans and a brilliant coach who worked under pop for many many years. We have fisher, and a bunch of young guys, melo (who can never be mistaken for a leader) and a president who talks to the media more than he does his own team. ES

I don't think there is much we can do about this issue. You have to hope a leader will emerge from the players you have. Teams don't just let their leaders go if they have one. |

At least one former NBA player thinks that’s a bad idea. People have been looking for the next Dirk since he got into the league -- with no avail. Clearly the stretch 4 has value, but the TS% of the stretch 4 tends to be horrible compared to the rugged post player UNLESS they can hit the 3 at greater than 35% a clip. 4/1 offense the commentators are talking about is as much a personnel decision as not because more teams are allowing the post to remain 1 on 1 without a double team. The real value of the post play is to stress the defense by forcing a shift to cause the double team, leaving a player open. I'd prefer my big man to be the kind that draws fouls. I think KAT can be that kind of player. In my DREAM scenario, you have a post player that can knock down the open midrange shot in KAT, a cleanup artist in Jordan (grabbing 15% of offense boards, finishing at a 70% clip), a 3+D in Carroll to space the floor (shoots 39% from 3), a defensive PG (which is my settling for lack of cap space), and Melo, whom we all know needs to be able to create his own shot if the triangle doesn't create an open look. I'd hope to upgrade the PG in the future to one that wants to get into the paint (like Tony Parker would do). Galloway could upgrade the position by becoming that guy. He's not there yet. I think the conversation you are discussing is because of the way Notre Dame went toe to toe with Kentucky -- smaller players against the giants. That said, Duke showed what a strong post presence can do when matched with a star SG. I'd hate to see our team FT% if you replaced KAT in the above lineup with OK4, but still, I'd be happy with that team too. This is the Randle.
