milwaukee has a deep team. depth has become much more important in the modern nba. melo would be a great sixth man on this bucks team. he would make this year's bucks team a conference finalist in the sixth man role. opponents would have to compromise their rotations to deal with melo while he abuses their bench. he could also reduce his minutes to 32 a game, fending off wear and tear on his body.

this is what i hope for with the knicks over the next two seasons. create youth, depth, and high motor/bbiq rotation. preserve latter-career melo by having him come off the bench and abusing opposing benches. let him disrupt opposing benches instead of his own starting lineup. it's a win-win for both melo and the knicks.

knicks win 38-43 games in 16-17. rose MUST shoot no more than 14 shots per game, defer to kp6 + melo, and have a usage rate of less than 25%

Why isn't Dirk coming off the Bench now? Seems to me he would be a candidate for your plan. How about Lamarcus Aldridge? He's Melo's age. Maybe his best role is off the bench. No, I got it let Lebron come off the bench. He'd kill every team's second unit.

Slow down. We might barely be able to get players to fillout our other holes

dk might be on to something. If we are paying max money and a no trade clause....we should have the option to bring melo off the bench.

we also have the option to put the bottle down before we push send.

no i am going to plant the seeds for the knicks in your head right now:

jimmy butler would be ideal on this team-- he is among my favorite players. second choice draft winslow. third choice develop shved. so the order is acquire free agent, develop draft choice, develop from within.

towns would be a perfect draft choice. second choice draft kaminsky and stein by trading down from 2nd slot instead of drafting okafor. you get potentially two rotation players for one. kaminsky could start in the triangle and stein could be a terror off the bench.

butler/shved/winslow
kaminsky/smith/melo
cleanthony early/atetoukumpo/melo
towns/aldrich
galloway/shved/free agent (quasi point guard/defender like bradley or beverly)

these are some possibilities. this is how jackson should approach the summer agenda.

I'm a little confused. You have Melo behind two guys who might not even be nBA players and a bunch of high draft picks all on our team. Also The Bulls said they will match any offer for Butler so its not happening.

i wasn't ranking by position i was showing variables at each position from which a gm in the offseason will create a truth tree "on the move," or as events dictate. he doesn't have the kind of game that syncs with others so it makes more sense to create a cohesive unit as a starting five and then bring melo off the bench to abuse benches in the middle of quarters and then perhaps at the end of close games. the iso game is better suited to the bench in the modern game, especially when a system is being instituted. and with the salary cap being raised it could be a true blessing.

His future? Perhaps. It seems that Melo may possibly be sticking with this team for the rest of his career (I guess provided we keep a competitive roster) and I can see him taking a bench role down the line because others have done it after getting onto their last legs. His immediate future? C'mon now...

I see this, but not within the period of his current contract. No way gonna be happen NOW. However, Melo be the 6th man on this team is highly possible and will happen in the next vet min contract Knicks sign with him, assuming he is being offered a contract by the Knicks and he continues wanting to play here.

Melo's role will become a spot-up 3-point shooter. Catch and shoot at the corner and playing off the ball.

I like Melo, I just wish he had a better personality. He does and says things where you can clearly see he's not a leader. Funny how I feel more tolerant toward A-Rod than I do Carmelo Anthony. That shouldn't be--A-Rod's clearly done many more questionable things in his career to embarrass himself and the teams he's played for but I dunno man -- why do I feel more tolerant and forgiving toward A-Rod?
