they had him on the books for 770,000 and couldve negotiated a deal during the year, and still owned bird rights on him--giving the cavs the ability to pay him the most money. By opting out the cavs have to give him a contract--depending on the salary cap of somewhere between 6-9 mm at a max. I think one of these teams with all of this cap room will break the bank for a max offer either atlanta Utah or Denver because Clev cant pay him that much> wow stupid shouldve been patient and rewarded him 1 day after the season started. trying to guage the market with a player like that is HIGH risk. to think he should be ours anyway:>(

Briggs....links are our friend.

Looks like they prob. made arrangements or at least agreed in advance with Boozer to have him stay. Cleveland can match any offer, so I don't think they will loose him.

the more i think about this, the more moronic comes into my mind. if they wanted to give him a hefty raise, why not just ADD it to the end of his contract and pay him 700,000 this year????????????? i have to wonder if they are trying some kind of ploy to low ball him????? thast the only sense that I get out of it, the only business logic that makes sense???? perhaps their believe is that one more year and someone offers him a max contract and their attempting to save the money now?????? but even if that is the case why didnt they say here you go booze here is the extension we promised you that starts after this season?? then he is tied up no matter what. If Im atlanta denver or utah--which ever team that doesnt want martin--i do what Miami did with odom --ill over a frontloaded contract that starts at 10Mm that Cleveland cannot match. if steve nash is worth 13mm than carlos booser is worth 10-11 6 years 66mm and clevland loses big time.

Maybe they think he's gonna have a huge year this year and then command a max contract at the end of the season.

I agree, though, it's hard to understand their reasoning. I'm just taking a guess

Paxson's a big idiot. How he still has a job is beyond me. LeBron fell into his lap and Boozer was his one good pick. Other than that he's had pretty bad moves.

If they lose Boozer for no reason, wow, I'd be shocked.

Provided he doesn't stay in the east, I wonldn't be shocked but kind of happy.

Guys who make such moves should be immediatly fired.

My mistake, but I still think that Boozer will be signing with Cleveland and ignoring other offers.

he was good but lebron helped him to become who he is.

wise from him to accpet that and draw benefit of it.

I wouldn't mind being MJ's sidekick.

carlos boozer reminds me of karl malone quite a bit--he wont be as good as malone but he can shoot it-- hes quite athletic, tough -- plays solid D and is a 6-9 260 rebounding machine. If Im atlanta utah or denver Im offering this guy the max--in free agency how many chances are you going to get to0 find an athletic tough 6-9 post player with his skills at age 22 that will come to your team??? You arent unless you draft him!!!!!! The Bobcats should POUNCE on this guy and put him next to Okafor--it's a no-brainer!

He had an excellent year as a rookie also. Of course Lebron helped, but very little. Boozer is a very very good PF. Dont under rate him by saying Lebron helped him become who he is.

I don't think Boozer is worth 10M per year- lets not overvalue him

is he better than K Thomas?

Yes- but by how much?

KT? what is this fascination with over rating KT?

and what is more sad:>( is the NY mentality--dont you realize boozer is 10 years younger much bigger stronger more athletic already well rpoven at an age Thomas wasnt even in the NBA at? The guy averaged 16 points and 11.5 rebounds at 21-22 years old! This guy in his prime is going to be a 22 point 14 rebound 50% player with a ton of toughness.

Briggs,

And Frank is everybodys deal maker when they throw him in........Used to Milos, or the ever present obscure first rounder. Protected of course.

Kt for Ray Ray, Kt for Sheed, KT for shaq, KT for Kobe, KT for president!

ANd every one will play for the MLE, cuz its NY baby!

The Chad was right about one thing, we did our deal and really dont'have room to convert Mutumbo and OH into a good player because we can't realistically add to payroll. Its freaking outragious anyway as it is.

Kurt and one of those contracts is all the trade bait we have left. If we must add payroll, do Mutumbo and KT for sheed if it fits detroits plan. Deke likly retires then get exiled to the motor city. OR they buy his azz out for a mil.

I like Frank coming off the bench to fill either guard spot, and penny at the 2 at times.

no doubt Boozer is better- but by how much?

What kind of points/rebounds does Kurt put up playing in Boozers place with Lebron to open things up? Clearly, not as much as Boozer did, but likely more than Kurt did last year.

My point is I don't think Boozer is a 10M a year player- is he an 8M player? Yea, but thats just a bit more than KT (relatively speaking)

And Boozer is going to have to bring again next year and again the year after.

If the Cavs had picked up Boozer's option, he would have been an unrestricted free agent after next season. Would they have been able to extend him before that happened?

lol @ being BANNED by Martin since 11/07/10 (for asking if Mr. Earl had a point). Really, Martin? C'mon. This is the internet. I've seen much worse on this site. By Earl himself. Drop the hypocrisy.
