We still have our max space and we pick up an under rated SG who we can insert into the SL--he comes off the bench for them and Mcgary could possibly start at our PF especially if we get Towns. Novak we can use for the year or flip. This allows them to pay Kanter and pay 25mm less in taxes.
Mitch McGary is a rookie on a rookie contract, why would OKC want to move him?
Put it this way, if the Knicks and OKC had exactly the reverse rosters and situations, would you as the Knicks GM be willing to give up a 2015 first rounder to get Novak, McGary and Morrow off your books?
If you absolutely had to dump those players, would the Knicks even be your best trade option?
The problem with trade rape is once you put yourself into the shoes of the non Knicks team, it doesn't look so rosy on that side.
Practical trades in the NBA have to
1) Appear as, at least on the surface, a win/win for both franchises
2) Appear to be the best overall trade option for those franchises considering ALL the teams in the league
3) Be defensible to the general sports media, season ticket holders, fans and ownership/coaches/players
4) Be practical to the non Knicks front offices/GMs/scouts sense of basic self preservation
A trade like this seems incompatible to what OKC seems trying to do ( i.e. make a push to win while they still have Westbrook and Durant on the roster) If they need to clear salary, they have 30 other teams that can offer options to do so.
OKC is in the business of not losing money. If they wanted to pay tax they'd have signed Harden.
There are times when a team looks at its roster and has to make choices.
Personally I think OKC has to think long term and move KD or Westbrook if they don't extend. It seems like they are ready for LA.
Thats just me. LA should try to get him.
KD has to get healthy first.
They need to go the way of ATL and have a more rounded roster.
