"A big part of it is that I want a career Knick. As a fan - someone who wants so badly to love this team -- I covet an organic star more than anything. I've been using that word, "organic," for years on P&T about everyone from Iman Shumpert and Danilo Gallinari to Toney Douglas and Landry Fields. I've long dreamed of the Knicks actually developing a centerpiece - finding a gem, then polishing it into a crown jewel instead of pawning it off for something else prefabricated."

I read the article--95% of Knick fans want nothing to do with trading this pick. I think management better listen to the fans this time--or they will soon find empty seats.

the thing was that all those guys we were better off not having... keeping a player for the sake of it can be just as bad as willfully trading players away...

this pick though should be a good player and should be on the team for awhile... i fear for okafor though since it usually takes another stop to find the fit for that kind of player..

After all was said and done, even the clippers were able to draft some players and build on that!

IF Sterling can do it, so can Dolan!!!

The Knicks will do everything they can to bring in new blood, with appropriate consideration to opportunities involving more experienced players to put the kind of team on the floor that New Yorkers demand.

Your post sounds like an infomercial. Very general with no individual thought. Can you elaborate on how....who....when

It reads like a cut and paste from the Knicks official site.

Born in Brooklyn, Raised in Queens, Lives in Maryland. The future is bright, I'm a Knicks fan for life!

Wow. This is ostensibly straight from the horse's mouth. This is why I fear the draft.

There will be a mix of home grown talent and free agents. I don't see anything suggesting a deviation from this plan. People are making too much of this idea the Knicks will trade the pick. I haven't read a compelling deal that would provide more value than keeping the pick and adding free agents to form the new core. It's better cap wise as well.

I wouldn't try to discourage anyone from exhausting their concerns about it though. The history of this company shows it remains a possibility. Until the Knicks use that pick in the draft people will have justifiable concerns this org could do something wacko and trade it. History seeps into the brain and sends signals to the fingers to type about it.

From what I have read 95% of New Yorkers want to keep and build a team with a high pick. 95% actually is a higher than a demand--its a scream for Jim Dolan to STFU and sit down and make the best pick for the Knicks fans going 4ward.

I'd like to see a compelling deal that would justify passing up a chance at a player who could be a franchise piece for years. So far I haven't seen a deal worth doing. We have to remember that they would be drafting and presenting that player to the fanbase with all kinds of fan fair. This would be such a rare event of goodwill that I can't imagine selling off the future like that.

That player buys the franchise all kinds of time to build an eventual champion as opposed to being on a short leash with an injured Melo who may not even be ready to start the year.

All I'm saying it is not an unreasonable fear, because looking for reasonable trades and not seeing one doesn't mean they couldn't do something stupid. Even an eternal optimist such as yourself knows most people don't trust the franchise even if they like Phil and think he has a plan. Dolan has proven there will never be such a thing as full autonomy while he's the owner. Even if Phil wants to use the pick, starphucher logic always lurks in the bowels of MSG waiting to undermine common sense.

Well Im telling you that OKC is a vampire waiting for us to be stupid. There is NO WAY that OKC would trade Durant UNLESS hes hurt and thye feel it will be ongoing. They have too many players!!! Adams Mcgary Kanter Ibaka Jones Collison and Durant. Thats why I think we could stand still and get Kanter with a max contract. But IF OKC KNOWS that Durant is fckd and NO ONE will see him play basketball again before any trade--then how attractive is getting RID of Duarnt and bringing in a top 3 pick and knowing the Knicks it might be the 2018 pick as well. They could clear house on us--take away free agency--dump a """healthy""" Durant and that was sarcasm"""" on us. Of course there are doctors who will say he is quote healthy but you will NEVER KNOW until he plays the games---EXACT MFing things with Mcdyess--he played in just a few games end of season was "healthy" and then his knee blew up in our pre season. OKC doesnt have the structure to lose a Duarnt for nothing--they did not lose harden for nothing--and I dont see them losing any player for nothing--they are too fcking smart. We are the DUMBEST franchise in sports there is no doubt about it and w e have an owner PROVEN to gamble on injuries and names I mean proven--its all a sales job. This is etting up for another karate chop to the jib for kNicks fans but this time it will be a death blow. I think if it happens this time seriously vested fans will start truly bowing out.

And then follow that up with trading Melo to LA for their pick.

Phil has gone on record talking about this very scenario.

“You do need great players to win the championship, but having to always chase the best talent in free agency eventually becomes a mind-set of, well, the best talent wins as opposed to who plays the best team basketball — which is what San Antonio showed last season,” he said. “Their play was special, a team that really values passing, a system where they’re not just standing around, spacing out shooters. That’s also what Atlanta and a couple of other teams are showing this year.”

He added: “We’re not going to punch all the right buttons in the process of doing this. But we’re looking for multiple talents, drive, intelligence, guys that will play defense. We hope to develop a team, and there are a lot of agents out there looking to find a good spot for their players.”
