Hopefully we find a way to get some more talent via second rounders purchase. But it's time to add a young building block for the future. No more Starphuck trades to "win now". Worst case, we just trade Melo for additional 1st round picks and hasten our rebuild dramatically (that's my hope anyways).
Heres the problem....Whenever you add high profile GM, with a heavy legacy as a Coach, with 11 rings to show....You've already started the so called "Starphuck". Plus, Phil is going on 80, and can barely walk. So his timeline is extremely short. Melo's timeline is extremely short.
If Phil can trade the pick, to help improve the knicks next season and in the future, he doing it. If our GM was some kin of the owner....And you knew the GM was here for the long haul, then he will not be under the pressure to win now or within 5 years. He will try and build a foundation. Draft players like Towns with more potential, because he will have time to wait, if Towns hasn't reached his potential yet.
Phil will try his best to build a team that can make it to the NBA finals next season, and save room for one max player like Durrant next season. But Phil is not trying to tank again. He will be swinging for the fences until his contract is up. Just hope he actually makes contact with those swings. So far, he's hit a few base hits.
